If you're reading this because you live in Tennessee or Kentucky and you're interested in joining the Rebel Legion, welcome! We look forward to trooping with you
Here are some tips and tricks for getting started, approximately in order:
Join the forums
Register for the forums here: http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/profile.php?mode=register&sid=e1f1e206e56399e603d3528c3dba4cad
You'll need a login to submit your first costume, and getting involved in the forums early can help with building and/or sourcing parts for your costume.
Say Hi!
Introduce yourself here in the Corellian Base subforum! Browse the events section for upcoming events in your area. Prospective members are welcome to troop as a handler at events (being a handler means helping facilitate our members with the public- this can mean taking photos for folks, or helping members with masks navigate stairs, etc).
Choose a Costume/Character
Once you've chosen your favorite Rebel from any movie, tv series, comic, or book -- any good guy/girl from an official Star Wars canon source -- visit what is referred to as the "CRL" (the Costume Reference Library) for that costume. http://newsite.rebellegion.com/costume-standards/
These are the standards used to judge each costume worldwide.
Start a WIP (work in progress) Build Thread
When you start building your costume, go to the costume/prop section of the main forum, find the right "detachment" for your character, and start a build thread. You'll be able to get insight from others who have built the same or similar costume.

(If you get stuck and would like help locally, feel free to reach out here as well!)
Submit your photos and become a member!
When you submit your costume photos for approval, (click the "my costumes" link at the top) they will be judged at the detachment level (by the same people who manage the forum area where your build thread is.) Local leadership is courtesy copied on all correspondence, and can help out if there are any problems or delays. 2 weeks is the average wait time.
After you submit:
-Within 3-4 days, you will receive an e-mail when your application is assigned a judge. If you do not receive this email within a week, let the Base Membership Officer know (see below for who that currently is for the base).
-In the first e-mail from your judge, they will explain they're evaluating your costume, and the process takes 1-3 weeks to complete.
-If you do not hear from the judge after 3 weeks, check in with them politely (via email is preferred) to see if they received your application okay and if they need any additional photos. Also inform the Base Membership Officer that the process is taking a while, so they can be aware of the situation and intervene on your behalf if need be.
