In the future, I hope to take my standard (human) x-wing pilot, and add a mask, thus making him alien. I'm thinking of doing a Kel Dor (Plo Koon's species) cuz I think the head sculpt looks cool.

My question is... since they have non-human hands....

...would I need to modify my gloves to a 4-fingered style, or can I keep my "human" 5-fingered gloves I currently wear?

I tossed this idea out a little while ago for alien pilots in general, and it was recommended to make a "gloved version" of the alien hand... otherwise it won't match the other alien parts of the costume. Such as the Gamorrean had super large gauntlets and over-sized boots to fall in line with the larger mass of the character.

Personally, I would open the side seams on the ring and middle finger of the gloves, and resew it as a single (double-wide) finger. It would retain a very specific detail of that species. Wink

Oh i agree... my question was that if it was needed at all. If I didn't *have* to do it, i wouldn't go out and buy a new set of gloves to cut up and re-sew.

Yes, all alien parts have to match. Why would they not?

Amalphiea is right... Even for a pilot the hands should match whatever alien you're doing. If an alien has four fingers the gloves should have four fingers, if an alien has hooves for hands, then you'd have hoof gloves.

Or no gloves? Hmmm....

"Is it really a trap? Or do we just want them to think we think it is..." Laughing

If you've got 'em, why not show them off? I think Ree-Yees would be another one who's irregular hands would be hard to fit into gloves, custom or otherwise.

I totally agree, show them off. But not only do you have to show them off, but the sleeves of the flight suit should be shortened so that the prosthetics can fit better.

Or roll up the sleeves and tuck the flight suit under your "fins"

I figured I'd roll it in on itself a bit, there is enough room for the compad to still sit normally.

I was just messing around that night, but I think I'd need help with my second arm once the gloves are on- dexterity isn't quite there for some things.

The Mon Cal pilot looks pretty awesome. Smile

Something like that shouldn't have any problem being accepted. Alien hands don't have to have the gloves on them, you just need the alien hands. Unless the hands look really human... A Bith could probably get away with just regular gauntlet gloves because while their hands a little bit different they're close enough to human hands that with gloves on no one would probably notice. But with something like a Mon Cal, yeah, the hands are way different and regular gauntlet gloves wouldn't pass and you would either need the Mon Cal hands alone or, if you were really ambitious, make gauntlet gloves for the Mon Cal hands. But the hands alone would probably look better. Razz

An application/membership question- I have yet to submit my X-wing costume for membership. I've been holding out for my helmets (not required, I know...), but I suppose it's time to pull the trigger.

Would it be considered two different applications to have a human and a Mon Cal version?

Yes, that would be 2 separate applications.

Yup ... two separate, but I'd submit them at the same time.

You all got me thinking about an alien A-wing pilot now..... A Duro maybe. I need to ask our resident Cad Bane-in-progress person where he got his mask Smile
