Even if we can't get a signing here, doing a big group of these would be fantastic.

I need to redo my pants, so I should probably see if I can compare colors with Michelle to see if the fabric she found is a match for mine.

I think this will take a couple of assembly-line days to finish, so we'd have to budget in a few weekends to do it.

I think that Step 1 probably needs to be getting firm commitments from folks so we can order fabric? And then (maybe along with that) plan out some weekends to work.

I agree. Could you do an interest test in Freedom Base too?

Even before we have the fabric, we may need to have a pattern-making day, because not everyone is the same size.

Done! Posted an Operation Battlemaiden thread over there and pointed them in this direction.

I'd love to join in the fun! May even convince me to drag out my Battle Decoy costume!

Another Freedom Base person slipping in here to say that this is SUPER tempting. The battle handmaiden is basically my favorite of all of Padme's outfits......

Also! I know Michelle said she got her fabric from Mood for her Battlemaiden outfit so I swung by their booth at NYCC and asked about a bulk discount. The guy I talked to said we'd have to call their online order department but we can likely get a wholesale price if we're buying 32+ yards. (I used that as a general number, figuring 4 people at the minimum.)

I cross posted this to our potential members on the Freedom Base Facebook group. We have a few more interested as well! Is it at all possible to source several options on the velvet? Or is the Mood fabric suppose to be the best option? For budget reasons, perhaps we should look into lower cost velvet option for those members not able to attend this book signing, but wish to build this costume for approval anyway.

Also, Jenna- how many yards do you recommend? Based on your pattern?

Arlighty, so our potential interest list is:

Jenna (redoing pants only)
XWingKC (Joy Hargraves)
Lady Rex
Zocha (Carolyn-Michelle)
goodbyemidnight (Liz Fisch)
smjonesy (Sarah)
treblemaker (Carly Kennedy)
Zocha (Carolyn-Michelle)
chaosbria (Bria LaVorgna)
SaltyRey
Just Ducky (Jessie Lynch)
xcambonesx (camie finch)
Chicky Hero ()
StardustScavenger ()

Did I miss anyone?

Logistically, if any of you can get a hold of Butterick 4688, what the coat pattern is based on, that would be a big help. I have mine cut to sewing size 14, but we could use a few more to accommodate other sizes. I bet we can find something nice on burdastyle.com for a shirt and pants that everyone can print out in their size.

Yardage:
Velvet: Ideally 7-8 yd per person (if it is stretch velvet, we will also need 5-6 yd broadcloth to flat-line it)
Lining: 5-6 yd per person
Trim: 10 yd
Shirt: 2-3 yd

You will also need hooks and eyes for the jacket, a jacket zipper for the shirt, a zipper for the pants (if non-stretch), and thread, plus boots and hair extensions.

Bria, is this the velvet you were hoping to get a bulk discount on? https://www.moodfabrics.com/maroon-stretch-polyester-velour-318362

Another option could be this one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/544771404/grace-burgundy-stretch-velvet-fabric-by?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_ts1-e-craft_supplies_and_tools-fabric_and_notions-fabric&utm_custom1=54d1ea64-d650-47bb-bab8-0cb8b8272025&utm_content=go_920092299_47587536922_218695607480_aud-459688891915:pla-295916403786_c__544771404&gclid=CjwKCAjwx7DeBRBJEiwA9MeX_Pqng_t61rsdbDOHDjBTlbsRp8JsSTf3V3m73k4jqkjMETbUSDuChRoCLYUQAvD_BwE

This one silk velvet, which photographs much better than poly velvet (but could be prohibitively expensive: https://www.etsy.com/listing/612065945/burgundy-red-silk-velvet-fabric?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=silk%20velvet%20fabric&ref=sr_gallery-1-2

I also found this by the bolt (which comes out to $9.67/yd): https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/p56698_shsv026-burgundy-stretch-velvet-bolt

I did my lining in silk charmeuse, which photographs beautifully, but is really expensive: https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/p89545_1000m171burgundysilkcharmeuse

Polyester is also an option: (this can be left up to each person) https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/p208360_45632-soft-red-charmeuse
https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/p69138_us0018burgundycrepebacksatin

Shirt: (Hard to say without a swatch, but this looks close)
https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/p207722_45749-pale-red-stretch-sateen

Trim: (We will have to ask her if she has lots)
https://www.etsy.com/listing/468641152/2-yards-21mm-metallic-gold-jacquard?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=gold%20jacquard%20ribbon&ref=sr_gallery-1-38&organic_search_click=1

This is some amazing research!

https://www.amazon.com/Butterick-Patterns-16-18-20-22-BUTTERICK-PATTERNS/dp/B0149HOGJU Is this the correct jacket pattern? Just want to verify what I'm looking at before I start digging through my pattern collection, or checking Ebay...

I also have a massive roll of butcher paper (thanks costco) that is really useful for tracing out patterns (so everyone has their own copy) and for adjusting it down or up as needed in certain places. That combined with masking tape has been super helpful for making patterns lately.
