Thank you all, I am confident in the setup and the plan I have constructed, and this will not be a rush job, I guarantee it. Just wanted to add the update that I had a pattern and a plan. Very Happy

I've made some Disney replica costumes so I know I have to get the details right. ^^

Update!
Mom helped me take my measurements and we used comparison measurements to the original costume to figure out how our panels need to be! Went to Jo-Ann's yesterday and bought muslin, and I've started the laying out and cutting process for the mock-up!

Please excuse the wrinkles, the cat decided to 'help' by walking across it right before I took pictures. XD

Good luck with it. Smile

And I concur; for precise measurements millimeters are easier to work with.

Thank you! Very Happy All 24 panels are cut out, working on putting them together with a single basting stitch just to hold them so Mom and I can do any modifications/adjustments that may need to be made to this mock-up, and then I'm on to the sleeves, with their 16 panels apiece. XD

Update!
A quarter of the dress is stitched, I tried to get decent pictures of all sides. It needs a little ironing, but here they are! I linked from Imgur because the images would not resize adequately.

12 panels sewn together, going pretty well so far! Each of the 'center' lines drawn down the middle of each piece is precisely in the center of each sewn panel. Here's hoping they all cooperate!

That's looking great so far! It will all lie flatter if you notch your seams and iron them flat on the back side. It's easier to do that after sewing each seam so that it doesn't get too unwieldy.

This looks really great so far!

I think doing the mock up is a really smart idea; you can figure out what all needs adjusting before you cut the expensive fabric.

EDIT - and by that I mean that I like the process you are using. Wink

Thank you both! And yes I agree! I'd much rather be using a practice material to run through this. I couldn't imagine getting the good material and having something go wrong o_o

The main part of the dress is done! Mom and I sketched where the neckline and arm holes are going to be, but other than that everything is together perfectly! Seams and panels are matched up where they should be, and the length is precisely what we were looking for! Tomorrow, I begin the sleeves!

All right! I modeled the dress to show progress so far! Next will be the trimming of seams, the bottom of the dress panels (as seen in pictures) and shaping the sleeve! We'll be making a collar at the neck to settle and hold the neckline, and we have plans for the underskirt design as well. The step after that, I think, is to go fabric hunting at Mary Jo's! We've found amazing materials there on previous shopping trips, so hopefully this trip will be just as successful, if not more successful!
