Wow, that looks really sharp Bria!

I'm going to take you up on your offer to make the flare holder

The top of my boot is 17 1/4" around. Please let me know if you need any other details to make the holder, and I'd be happy to compensate you for the time and material - perhaps in beer form?

Those are some fancy looking pieces of flare. Where'd you get them?

Charlie

The flares were from PilotBay. I'm debating whether to get another metal set from him or just do the cheap wood this time. And that should be all I need as far as measurements go. I'm not a beer drinker but I'll take a coffee. Razz If you're going to Katsucon, I can make it and bring it to you there. Smile

I checked out the Pilot Bay Etsy shop, but didn't see the flares listed there. I'll probably just cut and carve some 3/4" dowels. Ooh, we could trade! I'll provide the dowels, and you provide the holder

I'll be at KatsuCon all weekend. See you there!

So apparently fate thinks I shouldn't stray from the Imperial life...

A combination of multiple car repairs and a flooded bathroom = I'm not going to be building this kit this year. I'll still help out with 3D prints if needed though.

Sad sorry about all the Real Life woes and that you won't be able to join us. Thank you for being willing to stay onboard to help with prints though!

At the least I hope you're able to glean some "lessons learned" and the like from this once it's over and you're ready to tackle your own build again!

Turned out that Steve M.'s helmet kits he was trying to get rid of are the same size as the helmet I have now (Darth Hair's helmet kit). Side plate for the bucket fits perfectly against my current helmet. But, looking closer at my helmet, I can likely do some work inside to give me a little more vertical room, to have the helmet sit a bit further down on my head, solving my issue with my current (built but not painted) helmet. I'll be doing a little modification on that rather than getting a new kit, and coming up with a paint scheme. Something with plenty of red/white/blue seems appropriate, for Liberty Squadron. The weatherstripping even comes off easily, so I don't have to try to mask that when I start painting.

So, Steve's still got one of the two helmet kits available for a good price, and it looks like it's a good kit.

It occurs to me that it is possible to print model-type decals on modern inkjet printers - people do so for scale models all the time, now. That might be one way to get custom helmet decals that are a lot thinner than vinyl ones could be.

Hmmm, just from some other crafting projects I've done, I'd be more interested in trying out a laserjet printer (over inkjet) to test out printing decals and spraying some topcoat over 'em to see if they hold up. Unfortunately mine bit the dust and I've only got inkjet at the moment.

I know what you're going to say, "Matt is there a gadget you don't have?". I've got a nice laserjet I can use to help out with this.

LOL. Sounds good. (Someday I will have a laserjet again.... someday. I miss it.) If you want to try printing some test decals sometime and just spray 'em with a clear coat to see if they can handle it, that'd be awesome. No real rush, since helmets are the last thing on the timeline.

Wow - What a great idea! Teamwork makes the dream work!

If there is a Second Wave of something like this, please let me know.

Sorry I missed out on the fun and I can't wait to see all the new pilots.

All: If anyone is still looking for pilot gloves, Chris Porta from Tyranus has a pair of XL gloves from Wampa Wear available for sale. You can contact him via Facebook about them.

Will post photos when I get a chance, but they are in good condition.

Hey folks: if anyone else wants to take me up on my offer to make a leg flare holder and is planning on going to Katsucon, let me know ASAP with the measurement for the top of your boot. I'm going to sit down tomorrow or Saturday and work on Charlie's and can do another or two at the same time.

Hey there. I'm not going to Katsucon (sadly - wish I could go), but I would like to take you up on the offer for the leg flare holder. I'll be at AwesomeCon at the end of March, if that would work for a timeline. So there isn't a rush on mine, I just wanted to contact you before I completely forgot and zoned out.

My boot measurement is 15" around. How adjustable is the holder? Or is it not?

Thanks again for offering to make this - this is awesome!

They're not adjustable but I can redo the math/make it fit a 15" boot easily enough. Smile
