I understand this, but I would like to know which lightsaber it is of the three or if it is a new one made specific to this movie.

This is awesome! Do you know if we have a CRL for this yet or any idea when one should be ready? I've been looking into some pieces for the costume and studying the fight (I'm in Saber Guild and we have a Kylo) but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger until the official guidelines are up.

Honestly? No idea yet. Can't get a good enough look on the saber to tell. But I can't wait to get my hands on some good references. Very Happy

it's a new one specific to the ST -- it's a hybrid of ESB and ANH.
referring to your diagram -- its actually the one on the bottom marked ESB.

ie: the ESB saber has 2 of those raised red buttons.
your diagram shows 1 red button + 1 'glass eye' for ESB
(this is wrong -- this is the TFA saber).

the ESB looks like this:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/923x615q90/593/2owp.jpg
in this pic I have ESB (with blade) and ANH (no blade).

differences:
- ANH has 'bubble strip' on control box; ESB has circuit board.
- ANH has black rubber grips (no rivets); ESB has rivets on rubber grips (pommel end only)
- ANH has 1 raised red button + 1 glass eye; ESB has 2 raised red buttons (no glass eye).

the TFA/TLJ saber has:
- circuit board on control box (like ESB);
- rivets on the rubber grips (like ESB);
- 1 raised red button + 1 glass eye (like ANH).

-===-

the ROTS one is a different animal altogether.
this came from the parks lawsuit.

a company called parks sabers was making 'graflex camera flash' replicas and selling them to the star wars community as lightsaber props.
(as this was the "found item" used to make the original lightsaber).

GL sued them and tried to claim copyright over this 'found item'..
he tried to make them stop selling 'camera flash' replicas..
..but the courts ruled against him.

(the courts ruled: the design of the "graflex camera flash" does NOT belong to george lucas -- the copyright passed to the public domain when the graflex corporation ceased to exist -- they ruled in favor of Park's)

this left Lucasfilm with a popular merchandise item, which they could not copyright -- the iconic 'graflex' lightsaber.

so : in 2005 when ROTS came out, they designed a new lightsaber, which KINDA looks like the old lightsaber -- but this is a brand new design, (with different dimensions, 'copper' button instead of red, etc) -- this is a design for which Lucasfilm DOES own the copyright. LOL

(ie: they changed the original design of Luke's lightsaber, just enough to create a new & enforceable copyright for Anakin's lightsaber -- no "in universe" explanation is ever given)

end of day:

the ANH, ESB,(and now TFA) sabers were all built from the graflex camera flash seen here:
but the ROTS saber is a wholly new design made from scratch, which is owned entirely by lucasfilm.
it's not really the same thing. Razz lol

I am not sure about buckle description in proposed standard:

Quote:
-The buckle is distressed darker on the edges and is aluminum colored.

From what I could seen in movie, buckle is clear, with aluminum shine ... I seen no dark edges ...

For the trench coat, is it possible that the fabric could be rough silk? The lines down the sleeves look, to me, like folds. There are a few close ups of Luke where it really looks like the fabric isn't smooth but rough.

At this stage everything is possible. Wink It's not a costume we have a whole lot of references off and the ones we have are generally blurry.

I saw it again today and noticed the shiny belt buckle.

I have a thought. So on my costume I did lines and detailing on the cuff and collar.... what if the cuff and collar IS Double crinkle gauze and the rest isnt?

O.o Throw me thoughts. Im not seeing the same pattern on the main shirt

The front cross section and upper sleeve look Linen!

Click to Enlarge!

How I created the look was by running my machine super close and top stitching lines all over it. You can see the detailing in my collar Smile

...gah i need to use my darker wig for this costume
