Yes, I know, I'm still not done with Boushh, but while I'm waiting on parts to arrive... I'm sourcing and researching for the TFA blue gown. #CostumingProblems, right ladies?

I'm going with a silk linen for the overdress. Would a silk charmeuse or shantung work for the underdress? There's a faint sheen to the dress and I don't want to get too shiny. I'm ordering swatches from the site below just to get an idea of texture and color.

Silk Shantung, while possessing many of the luxurious characteristics of silk dupioni, has fewer, less prominent slubs and is more uniform in texture. Machine-woven, the thread width of the shantung is thinner than that of the hand-woven dupioni. Available in 290 colors, our shantung is often lustrous in appearance and has a light crispness and body, which makes it a perfect choice for interior decorating and suitable for couture designs, elegant evening wear and bridal gowns.

Could be, but I notice the fabric is two-toned, so that would probably not make it a good choice.

Thanks. The charmeuse may be closer as it doesn't have a shiny sheen. I'll have a better idea when the samples arrive.

I'll also need to fire up the reference photos and oh man what a hardship, watch TFA again to look at the dress.

Poor you. Having to rewatch the movie just for the dress. Wink
Of course, you could 'cheat' and look at the screen caps here: http://www.senate.rebellegion.com/?portfolio=leia-organa-the-force-awakens-blue-gown

Some samples came in. I love the solar blue silk linen for color and look for the over dress.

The charmeuse sample isn't the right color, but I do like the weight and sheen of the charmeuse. Would this type of silk be acceptable for the under dress?

Swatches in sunlight..

Under the fluorescents at work.

The solar blue looks a bit more denim in shade when photographed. To the naked eye it looks like a good blend of blue, gray and a little green.

I think so. Smile The solar color does look very nice. And so do the charmeuse.

Thank you! I was very, very pleased to see the solar blue was fairly spot on. Now to match up the charmeuse. I just wasn't sure if it would have too much 'shine' to it.

I think it will be fine. It's fairly low shine, but not no shine, which is how the gown was in the movie.

Awesome!

Now to source silk either in a close match to the linen or *shudder* do the dying myself to match.
