Right, obviously in an instance of action figure vs actual costume image, action figure would never win out as the proper reference, I was speaking ONLY of cases where there is no other reference image in existence. In that case, it's literally the only reference we have, and as an LFL licensed resource, it falls within the written policies as being considered a legit resource. I hate to have to keep pushing, but this unwritten policy seems to be the lynchpin of this costume, and it just seems unnecessary.
As for the discussion of leather vs waxed fabric on the jacket, I side with team leather, because in most of the shots (especially the earlier ones) the jacket has the leather sheen, and in close ups, there's cross hatching or stitching texture, which would be visible on a cotton or denim fabric, even if it was waxed. The second shot above is from later in the film, after the jacket has been exposed to an explosion, and is most likely still dirty from that, which would account for the lack of shine. Plus, the aforementioned lighting difference likely plays a part. I'm currently seeing if anyone I know who worked on the production has gotten a look at it in person, or knows what the jacket was made from, so hopefully they come back with something. _________________ "I'm no Jedi. Thank you so much for that image...and..I think that is enough of the back of the jacket to show that it would appear that there is just one seam down the back....
.
now .....
we only have one piece of missing information....
do the pants have pockets in the back...or not? _________________

I m not sure we will ever know on the pockets. My gut says no. Have there ever been back pockets in Star Wars? I think they even ripped the back pockets off Luke's levis in ANH.
As for the back seams. There are still the two seams curving from under the arms, not quite princess seams but close.
This pic shows the bottom of said seams on the back.

Couple of more great images for reference (nothing really new, though)
This last one is so HiRes you can clearly see that the pants are twill, that the jacket has some kind of coating, the reinforced knee-backs, and even the po zu logo on the boots!

Okay, so i have been thinking about how to resolve the back pockets issue. The pants Poe wears in TLJ are the same pants he wears on Jakku in TFA.
So I spent some time combing through TFA footage for a Poe Dameron butt shot. For, most of the scenes in which he is wearing those pants the Jacket covers his butt.
But,
Here is well lit shot that clearly indicates that there are no pockets on the back of the trousers.
Here is another
Hopefully, this helps provide some clarity and guidance |

There is a scene in TLJ where Poe bends over to see outside the escape pod and there, you can see the butt area clearly. The clip is not released yet so I’ve only seen in the theater and illegal captures but I’m sure there are no pockets there. We should just wait until it is officially released.... _________________ Jamie Park

Thank you! Do you know if there is a clear shot of the back of the jacket?

Thanks so much to everyone for all of the great research you are doing...
I am sure it has been taking you all a lot of time...
I can see the end in sight and I think we can put together a standard for voting very soon...
it has been my feeling all along that there were no pockets in the back... _________________

This thread was in the back of my mind while watching TLJ again today, LOL. There seemed to be a pretty clear, lit view of most of the back of Poe's jacket on Crait right after Leia's "What are you looking at me for?" bit. I don't remember seam details offhand, but maybe this will help someone going into a rewatch? |
