Hello there..
My first desire was to get an approved, accurate Obi Wan costume. I decided to start works for Ep2 ObiWan.
First I got pair of boots, handmade by local shoemaker, I think they are really accurate...
Then I purchased a buckle from Dave aka Saberbelt.com...the belt and pouches are in progress from Utapau costumes lab.
I found a very close fabric for the Outer tunic from India ( is different from the inner tunic fabric...as I understood, the inner tunic fabric is a simple crinkle crepe)...It needs a bit of dying job, cause is very Rots in color.
The tunics will be tailored by Utapau Costumes Lab.
The robe is from Museum of replicas
Pants...I'm going to buy twill work pants.

Your Outer Tunic fabric looks like the Dharma Trading fabric, which is the exact material that they used on the film costumes (as far as I'm aware) though it is a NIGHTMARE to sew.

I love your boots. They look like they are a really nice high quality boot.

Silk should generally be flat-lined with a cotton or similar fabric to stabilize it.

I would say silk. My recommendation is to always use natural fabrics vs. synthetics whenever possible because with all of the layers of these costumes, having fabrics that breathe is important.

These elements look great so far.

The fabric is a fantastic find and is a bit better than the Dharma. The Dharma fabric is definitely not what was used in the movie. Whilst it has a nice texture, it lacks the consistent “ lined” appearance that is seen in the films.

I’ve done a lot of work with that Dharma fabric and the only way to get it more accurate is to have it professionally pleated using a technique called “ knife / knife “ It then has to be very carefully washed to take out the sharpness of the pleat. My first 4 attempts washed out the pleat totally but the 5th left just the right amount of texture and lined effect.

It’s not the fabric from the movie but a good base to work on.

As I said, yours looks much better and I can’t wait to see your application.
best of luck with the build Wink

Ciao Marco,

Could you tell me where you have bought the fabric? I‘m also on this project for a few month 🙂 and I want to do it as accurate as I can. I will start my WIP within the next few weeks. Meanwhile I‘m on the belt and I have the first pouch ready. Waiting for my boots and ordering my lightsaber 😊 If you want lets stay in contact. Maybe we can share some tips and tricks.

These are my first pouches. I‘ve made two of them because of the colour. I think the second one is better because it’s more red. What do you think?

See you
Thomas

Hi Thomas.

Your pouches are really good!..but they refer to ObiWan ROTS, episode 3, meanwhile i'm working on Aotc, episode 2--I can tell that original pouches ROTS has two lateral engravings insted of one. If you need reference photos truly ccurate we get in contact on FB...I'll give more instructions about fabrics on private message..may the force be with you.
