My wife and I started this project last year for D-con. She was up until 4am for about three weeks, not counting the months of preparation and ordering materials and parts. None-the-less, the night before the long awaited freak feast, we were many hours from completion. I am an armor guy myself so I did the fiberglass and sculpting, and she worked on the softer detailed parts and put in the hair. The gown is all her.

She has picked it up again, with the hopes of being ready for this year. If she gets it ready I will leave my armor in the room and be a servent to the senate. Smile

Funny you ask,,, about 8lbs. Like most of my little projects, I tend to over do it with the fiberglass. Confused The scull cap has about six layers of glass, and the foam covered styrene core has four layers. It sounds like a lot, but the sterdiness was needed to hold up to the stress of the dangly things.

8 lbs is just about same as my headpiece. Which is several pounds over what you should really wear on your head.
I can wear my headpiece about 2 1/2 to 3 hours tops and then have to take a 30 to 45 minute break. Then can wear it another 2 hours before an hour break. If I don't keep reducing the wearing time and increasing the break time, I have a horrible tension headache and neck/shoulder pain.

Damn, Todd. I've heard you guys talking about that for some time but that is truly amazing work. I can't wait to see this puppy at DragonCon.

Just so you guys know, Starla (Todd's wife) also makes some totally awesome cakes, too!
