Any good tips on removing the lower strap? I ordered the ones from Leatherup. Very happy with the quality and the price was pretty good.

like others..
I just used a utility knife with a fresh blade and cut as close to the seam as I could...

but ...what I did in addition to that was put a couple layers of masking tape over the boot in case I slipped while making the cut...
then I wouldn't cut the boot itself...

UPDATE:

Available at Sportsman's Guide, a more accurate-looking boot. Would be excellent for X-Wing pilots, RFT's, TIE Pilots, Imperial Crew & Gunners, Death Star Troopers, etc.

Sportsman's Guide now has these taller boots (16"). Maybe you can take them to a shoe repair and remove a few inches from the top (?):

The next time I hit a surplus store (we have a few in my area) I will look to see if they have anything that either of you can use. I am assuming both of you need a Mens size 8, correct?

Classic Motorcycle Advanced Engineer Biker Boot $69.95+$7.95 S/H

All you need to do is take the lower strap off and make the buckle on the upper strap black with some form of metal paint or whatnot. The reason the buckle and such is okay is because of the below picture. I am guessing that the boots can also be good for the pilot since the boots were interchangeable.

Yepperz! Mens 8. I wear ladies 9 1/2 or 10.. depends on the shoe. So for these, mens 8 would be better

Not a big deal. How would you know it was me when I have different screen names for various message boards and email? I try to keep incognito (and yet I always sign my real name to my posts, go figure!).

On a completely unrelated note, I worked on the stun baton for the CorSec costume on saturday at a local armor party. I think they look pretty good. But then again, I am not done with them yet. I still have lights (and possibly sound effects) to figure out. And some other minor cosmetic stuff (drilling, cutting, and painting) still left to do. But all in all, I think they will be a good prop. Of course I am pretty happy with my work. I will have to take some pics and show them to you.

Would these work?

From www.911costume.com they are under $30. Though they do have a zipper. But can be blowsed or cut down like mentioned above.

Or would the zipper be a big issue?

The ad says that the boots are 18" tall - that is really a little too tall for RFT -
generally RFT boots are in the 13" range....

but...
I suppose if you have REALLY long legs...the 18" tall would look like 13"....

I understand they are too high. I can fix that no problem. My question is the zipper. Is a inside zipper boot okay or does it need to be a pull on?

Thanks,
Keith
