I have a friend who is interested in a costume, specifically the white dress worn by Sheltay Retrac in ROTS. Any leads on fabric, patterns, etc?

Finding an appropriate fabric for this one is the biggest challenge, I thought. I bought a sheer fabic and lined it with a cream crepe, but didn't have enough fabric to do the cape. So, I'm either going to redo the whole thing if I find plenty of a fabric I like, or use a different texture for the cape.

I don't have the pictures added in yet, but the text write-up is posted: http://leiacostuming.stormtrooperprincess.com/sheltay/

I've done this costume.. for the pattern I just used a sundress pattern and altered it. I think it was simplicity. All I had to do was add the slits to the sides of the skirt and add the second layer to the bodice. If you need help, let me know.

Trisha's book Dressing A Galaxy has a nice picture of her.

I'm planning on doing this one, could you tell me how you did the sleeve/gloves and cape? Did you make your own pattern for that?

I used the padawans guide as a reference for the cape... there's a link Naboo_ Girl's making of page that has a pattern. I just used white velcro on the back of the neck to hold it closed.

For the gloves I used a stretchy fabric.. same as for the dress. Basicly measured around my arm to make a fitted tube that went to my down to my knuckles and up past my elbow and cut out a thumb hole.

The headpiece is made out of sintra glued together and shaped to fit my head.. there's a hairclip on each side to keep it in place.

Hope this helps Very Happy

Goodmorning everyone. I am a new enrolled. I am from Milan (Italy). I am intent on making Sheltay Retrac's costume. But I have big doubts about the fabric. The ideal I realize is the ivory georgette, but the dressmaker (costplay specialist) tells me that the fabric with oblique embossing does not exist. It was created only for the dress of the film. What did you do? What do you recommend me? Is it possible to see (by photo) the fabric to the judges before making the dress? Thank you very much for your suggestion. (Sorry for my school English).

Michela

Hi Michela, thanks for checking in. What we are really looking for is a fabric with a crinkle texture. Even if you cannot find the original fabric, something with a similar texture and color would work.

We encourage you to show us pictures of fabric you are thinking about before you buy it, so that we can give you feedback.

And definitely get some with stretch in it as it's a very fitted costume. Smile I recently saw some nice fabric for this, but it was only a leftover. Made me sad.

I have been looking and found this. Would this meet with approval? I just want to make sure before I construct the entire outfit.

I'm not a judge, but that might get close to the texture you are looking for. The one caution I see is that it's a knit, so you'd have to flat-line it with something firm like a muslin to keep it from drooping.

It's going to be a maybe from me, too. Finding a good fabric for Sheltay is a pita.
