With the Endor bunker getting ready for June, it was suggested that I could put my WIP here to maybe drum up some interest in the costume for Joliet.
My current outfit consists of:
long sleeve t-shirt (jiffyshirts.com)
cargo BDU type pants (Cabela's)
Pistol belt and packs (Omaha's Surplus)
Boots (Palladium scout)
Donut and ear caps (DroidWelder on the forums)
A280 completed (M16 airsoft from Amazon, kit from Darthhair on the forums)
Rank badge, bandolier and greeblies (thanks Phyllis!)
I also have the patterns for the vest and cap, so that I can use the swatches from above to match fabrics for doing these myself.
I am also getting assistance on my gaiters from Phyllis as well. I owe her a lot for all of her help!
Open to thoughts and suggestions! |

I have made some small progress on the helmet donut (I need to add shims to make it fit my head), as well as a few bandolier greeblies to go along with it. Yay for PVC caps and couplers!
I also received my gaiters in the mail. Still need to pick up OD laces to go with them, however.
I am hoping to get the pants painted this weekend. |

Pants have two colors applied. The brighter green stood out quite a bit more than expected, but I think I left enough tan that adding two more colors (lightly) should still leave enough base color showing.
I also took some time to open up the legs, so that I don't have lines on the creases - even though these pictures don't really show it.
Thoughts?

After you put on the third color...
go ahead and wash the garment...
you will see that the color mutes very nicely...
take mine for example....
note how "egad" it looked when I first finished painting it...
and then look how it "mellowed" out when washed...

Today has been painting day for bandolier greeblies and the rank badges.
I also have the metallic base for the donut, but I may need to rework the seams, as they are leaving more of a defined line than I expected - so, no pic of that currently. |

Will do! Thanks for the suggestion... I was thinking the colors seemed a bit bright. I'll do that and post a pic up soon. |

You can dull down the color with a little more weathering..
Also...
here is a couple of photos from when the actual costume appeared in an exhibit...
that should help

I've had a little trouble coming up with the very top "square communicator" for the bandolier, so I suspect I will be doing a little sculpting to try and recreate it. A lot of the 3D prints I have found don't look close enough to the originals posted above.
I added a fourth color and touched up the others today, and it actually looks a lot like your "pre-wash" version. I thought I might have overdone one of the brighter colors, but I have faith it will mellow nicely. |

I did make a mold of that top communicator...
right now I just don't have any of the resin supplies for casting....
Resin has become a bit expensive and really does not have a long shelf life
so since so much is being done with 3D printing these days
..I really have stopped casting my molds.. _________________

Here's a test preview. I still have a few things to work out, but it is coming together finally.

Gary I may need to pick your brain and Phyllis' brain on this for sure. Now that Katie finished her Scout Trooper, I need to go Trooper Hunting... LOL |
