I was just curious if anyone had any more information on the RFT pack as seen in this photo:

Has anyone here done this, or is anyone familiar with the resources for it? Thanks!

I believe that's a custom addition to the Alpha Squadin in Sunrider Base. He's a Communication specialist RFT. Very nice concept.

In addition to that, I think they have a sniper and medic in the group.

Yes, I'm planning on doing the medic myself...I figure since I'm already First Aid/CPR Certified and know just enough to be dangerous (massage therapist) this would be a good calling for me!

Arcana is the one who wants to lug around the pack all day wink2

I the idea stunned me too, and I made a photo of those guys in front of Holiday Inn hotel before parading to RL photo.

The RTO (radio Telephone Operator) is quite a good idea, had a sort of "VN-era look" I like.
I presumed was some form of expanded universe/videogame: was not?
Well, is a good Idea anyway.

Maybe in the future, may be an addiction to do in European RFT unit (a platoon sized unit, by now).
Is possible to collaborate to have same equipment here, too?

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, the Phoenix Fan Force was considering doing "Desert Rebel Troopers", along the lines of the Endor trooper, but in desert camo appropriate for the local surroundings.

As part of the ensemble, we discussed doing character types as discussed here: heavy weapons, RTOs, medics, snipers, etc.

Personally, I think it's a great idea to do --whether the base costume is a RFT, an ERT or a desert or whatever clime. Obviously they can't be done for truly official/canon events, but it's pretty obvious by watching the 501st (esp. clones and Sandtroopers) that BFG's, backpacks and other larger or more interesting items add to the draw and the allure.

If the backpack or gear looks like it would fit well into the SW universe, and you can weather it or distress it so it fits well with the character type you want to play, then IMHO, by all means do it.

With groups getting to squad size or bigger, then it could make sense to say that the characters are inspired by Battlefront I and II, or that you are a special forces squad on planet X or Y, and require special equipment.

I loved seeing this gear in question, and might just have to make something like this once we add a few more to our numbers in Denver. Big Frakken Guns, cool backpacks and other plausible kit can only help add to the fun of trooping. People like big guns and cool shiny toys. Or at least I do. Cool

Maybe I need to make a PVC bazooka while I'm building my minigun....... DS Boom

As soon as I get my RFT done, I'll be working on a BFG. I'm thinking something along the lines of a cut down E-Web with the power generator strapped to my back.

Great picture, thanks! As far as the desert RFT troop goes I'd definitely be down for that since I'm also in the phxff.

Ya thats a great pic, thanks for sharing! I assume we will be adding this to our projects list?? Very Happy

And I think having some of these guys along with the medics, etc would be a great addition to the RL let alone any squad!

That is indeed Sunrider member BLUE SQUADRON LEADER. And I think the idea did come from one of the video games; but I'll have to ask him to be sure.

I was hanging out with these guys on Thursday. We thought that dang antenna was going to decapitate someone! Shocked

I'll see if I can get Sean to post over here and talk about what he used for the backpack. I believe it was Rubbermaid containers.

We found some pictures supporting the RFT with leg flares from "The Making of Star Wars" book.

Some of us theorized that the leg flares were attached to the boots and since the boots are the same for both RFT and pilots, reusing the boots resulted in RFTs with leg flares. Smile
