|
|
|
This question has come up a few times, so I feel it is time to discuss it to come to a costume consensus. We determined what the acceptable look for the BF Desert trooper will look like, and I feel we should do the same for the Bespin trooper to keep people on the same page and same appearance. It is different from the Desert trooper in helmet and details, as well as colors and from what I can see, textures of the jacket.
I will be copying parts of the Desert Trooper Standard that was voted on by the Detachment and changing colors / textures as required.
Lets start at the top with the helmet. It appears to be a Endor helmet in light to medium grey (at the darkest). My monitor looks like it is between Gull Grey FS 16440 or Light Ghost Grey FS 36375 (sorry I dont paint RAF or Luft so I dont use RAL numbers).
Screen accurate AN-H-15-like soft cap.
The soft cap must be light gray to medium gray in color. Cap must have a ribbed panel that goes across the top down the center of the cap but the smooth sides of the base layer cap must be seen on both sides of the ribbed panel.
Open front hooded jacket
Hooded layer must be screen accurate blue-grey color. Commercial hooded sweatshirts are allowed but the zipper must be removed and only single seam hoods are allowed. There are some commercial "hoodies" that have a double seam on the hood-those double seamed hoodies are not allowed.
Screen accurate black capped sleeve vest.
Capped sleeved vest is similar to Endor Commando vest in black. Vest must have slash pockets and a padded angular, quilted applique on the right upper chest that starts higher near the arm pit and extends lower to the front closure of the vest. No closure needed on the vest. Capped sleeves must have adequate structure to hold their shape. Double thickness of fabric with a heavy stabilizer recommended. Sleeves should also be rounded and not have a "pointy" appearance.
Short, brown leather work gloves.
Gloves should be brown in color. Suede is not acceptable. Preferred is ball and strap design glove. Must be a smooth leather. Combination gloves such as Mechanix or Hatch tactical gloves with nylon or nomex compenents are not permitted.
Cargo style pants:
Accurate grey colored commercial BDU pants are acceptable.
Web Belt for pants
Belt should be canvas strapping style in a dark khaki or olive color about 2" wide.
Belt must have a black, square, open faced buckle. Strapping must match the strapping of the bandolier.
Boots:
“Desert” style combat or hiking boots with lug soles and rubberized toe in a light tan/khaki color.
- Zahal or Palladium (Israeli style) commando boots are preferred, and commercially available at this time Tan combat boots are authorized for people with size 13 or larger sized boots who cannot get the "Zahal," Palladium or similar style boots in their size. Combat boots/work boots must have the rubberized toe and should have any side panels or details covered by the gaiter.
Gaiters/Spats:
Medium tan/khaki cloth or canvas spats/gaiters. If lighter color is used, they can be heavily weathered for a darker appearance. Gaiters must have a singular vertical seam in the back. The gaiter is a tube of heavy cotton or natural fabric starting from the bridge of the foot, angling down on both sides in a curving arc and ending just above the heel in the back. The gaiter should cover most of the boot laces, continuing up past the boot top, to slightly below mid-calf.
Web bandoleer:
Bandolier should be made from a medium brown or dark olive strapping material and should match the color of the belt. Bandolier strapping should be about 2" wide and have loops for greeblies sewn into the strap starting just below the shoulder to about mid chest. 5 loops are recommended. The loops should have 3 lines of stitching running along the straps to distinguish the loops from the backing straps. You can leave the loops empty, or add greeblies as described in the optional items list.
Square Endor style chest greeblie worn on left side of capped sleeved vest.
Formal Requirements – choose one:
(Unless local laws prohibit or strongly discourage carrying anything that looks like a firearm)
• E-11
• DH-17
• Endor/Hoth rifle
• DLT-19
it appears to me that the pouches are different than those on the Desert trooper, and i do not see the desert canteen or cylindrical pouch.

The cap is not grey, dark sand or dark tan maybe. I would say eggshell grey on the helmet. I have that grey on my rft and it's perfect. _________________

Ian can you link us to that grey? ive looked and Im only coming up with household latex in gallons.
I feel after looking at the jacket on four devices that the color is the same chambray as used on the RFT, just in different material
now that I can see a better picture I agree its a brown leather belt.
Palladium makes the boots in a bunch of colors including black
http://www.palladiumboots.com/pampa-hi-02352-060-m
or this for twice the price
http://www.palladiumboots.com/pampa-sport-cuff-wpn-73234-001-m
I wear palladiums because they go up to size 14 US. _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

Here's a shot of the in game player model, the belt is a little low detailed but it looks like a dark brown leather belt to me.
I can also get pictures of other parts if need be, like the gloves and the helmet. |

Here's one of the glove. can go back and get the underside too if you'd need it.

I do not know if anybody is planning on making this costume in the near future or not but I wanted to share my collection of screencaps just in case some needs them.
Most of them are from youtube video clips. I have all the DLCs for EA Battlefront 1 but I have not been able to make screencaps directly from the game because Bespin is multiplayer only and nobody seems to play it when I am playing BF1. For some reason, everybody is playing dropzone or cargo instead. Unfortunately, those do not include the Bespin, Death Star, Scarif or Outer Rim maps.
