Hi all,
First costume build here. I am tackling the X-wing flak vest and I have the size right but I am missing a rib on the lower portion.
So the question is, will the judges pass this? And if they most likely would, should I keep the spacing the same on the back side to maintain the look and deal with a possible short rib on the back as well? I want to know before I put any more effort into this.
Thanks for your input! _________________

it looks like you are missing multiple tubes on the bottom portion and lower ribbing. My first reaction is that will not pass judging, but I am not a CRL judge. Just my honest opinion.
On the positive side that is one of the better flak vests I have seen done by an independent person, this is usually the main item I refer people to buy just to save head aches. |

Make it look like the ones on the screen and you cannot go wrong.

There are many details on the vest - critical is the rib size and spacing.

Thanks for all the replies.
Womp Rat, you are right, I thought there were only 7 ribs on the bottom and 9 total but I just looked at the tutorial again and realized I had miscounted. Definitely need more ribs at the bottom. Also, thanks for the compliment, this is my first experience with using a sewing machine.
JediXXL, thanks for the pics, I had not seen those stills available as a reference before. I will be looking at them closely.
Mac Bragg, those are the pics I needed. I was using 1/2 inch in the space between tubes, double what I needed to use. That is why I came out short so many tubes.
You guys are awesome. I will post my next version here so you can make the comparisons and see how much your input improved my vest. _________________

Okay, I think I got this flak vest thing figured out.
Here is my latest attempt. You can compare it to the other version I posted in this thread earlier.
I think I need to get one side a little more symmetrical to the other at the curve on the side but I also don't know if it will be noticeable once it is on my body and held in place with the straps. Time to start working on the back now that I have this figured out. _________________

Here are the almost finished pieces. I followed the example of the tutorial for the size of the sleeve to cover the strap but since I went with a full tube I'm going to have to make those bigger instead of leaving a channel like the tutorial session. That will only take a few minutes so tomorrow I'm going to start working on attaching everything together and getting the clasps on the sides .
I would like to give a big shout out and thank you to those who posted above to help me to get this flack vest to come together.
