I am making Jyn's layered main look, starting with the pants and shirt. I don't know if she is going to count as "Fringe" or "Rebel Supporters"

I've been working on this starting the day after Dragon Con. I've been loosely following the open build thread at the RPF (http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=259118) for new pictures and product IDs, but widely ignoring all the sewing observations because, well, figuring out how to make the costume is what makes this fun for me. I'm not going to post any descriptive tutorials right now until we get the standards up (which, I would like to help with)

First, I've finished my fitting draft of my pants using locally available materials. I have a very weird shape so it's hard to find a pattern for it. I think the only changes I would make is maybe adding a bit to the legs of my pants to loosen them up a tad. The pintucks I would like to be spaced out more, but I'd have to add more width at the knees to get the fabric to do that.

I've also IDd her boots as Veronica Combat boots from Frye. which you can sometimes find affordable seconds or old stock on ebay.

I have the gloves, too, though here is my tiny problem; they're huge. I'm going to try and alter them, but also going to reverse engineer the pattern in case I have to just make them smaller from scratch. I've removed the finish from one glove so far and ripped them apart.

Looking good so far. Jyn is on my list of costumes. I'm just not sure I'm in the mood for all the stitching Smile Glad to see the Frye Veronica combat boots are going to work for her boots. I had identified those a few months ago on the RPF thread but haven't gotten around to picking up a pair.

Thanks!

I finished the pants (version 1, anyway) but haven't been able to get a picture.

I've been having trouble IDing a good shirt fabric, so I gave up on samples and decided to dye my own. Here's my color observations.

This is the kind of crap that keeps me up at night. Now the costume in person has been under really bright lights, but I think it's lighter than it appears in the movie, which was probably color corrected darker. I'm aiming for making mine look more like the movie than like it does in person. 7 samples later and I think I have something I'm happy with. Mine is on the bottom, I'll be dyeing my yardage this weekend.

Looking really good - thank you for sharing and good luck!
I'd really like to do a Jyn costume myself, but I just had not enough time yet. Also, I'im undecided and unsure whether to wait for costume standards in order to be on the safe side or to be more adventurous, take a risk and start building it sooner Wink
For example, I found some similar boots on the internet but they vary a bit in their seems on the back. They are cheaper than the Frye boots.
Will costume standards prescribe the seems in detail or just the overall look? We don't know yet and that unsettles me Razz

I think it's going to depend on how much is visible on screen! I'm making this with the intention of re-making it once we get better info, but since my specialty is making patterns based off pictures (and quite frankly, the fun part for me), I'm making mine now since I want to help form the standards. Re-making soft things is not a headache for me, so if it's not a problem for you, either, be adventurous! If you don't want to have to remake anything, then I'd wait. At least fabric is cheap! This is why I'm doing this look now, but her armored look after we have all the info. I'm not remaking that!

Now, with this look, the exhibit pictures tell us more than what we might learn from the movie in terms of seam detail, most of the info we are missing is details on the blue shirt, and they've color-corrected a lot vs. the real thing. I think you'd be pretty safe to get started on a lot of the pieces.

Aaaand, right now, finishing up my collar drape. This fabric is a bit drapier than the real thing, but I haven't found anything that's got quite the right texture, so it'll do for V1.

Finished this up today! I think the fabric I have is a tad too drapey and my camera didn't quite capture the color (sort of a slate gray with blue overtones) I'll make V2 after the movie if I find a better fabric.

Working to try and get at least the vest done for the premiere. I have more dye samples, this time for the jacket at the vest. The jacket I'm still trying to the right blue/green/gray color (ironically, same color as my eyes), the vest I think the first brown I did is the winner. Still debating on thread choices, I think I need to get a heavier thread.

Also started my wig. I'll be a strawberry Jyn for the premiere, but hopefully will have the whole thing ventilated by mid January. 3rd full wig build, but first fully ventilated with human hair! Eeep! Hope I don't mess it up...

Getting closer...

Webbing for vest is drying, I'm dealing with putting brown facings on the red lining now, will probably add an inside pocket to stow my glasses. I've been playing with pastels to weather the stitching. The pocket looks huge and flat in the pic but better in real life, undecided if I want to make it narrower or not. I possibly might be able to start assembling everything together tomorrow!

Cool find with the boots.

Apologies for coming 'late' to the Jyn party.

Those boot are a great find. My only query would be the seaming at the back of the heel to the to on the boot. The pictures I've seen have down it to be straight and parallel, where's the boots you have the seams are not.

Great job on the awesome sewing.

Was this supposed to be "toe" or top"? If it's the strip of leather that runs from the back of the heel up that continues into the look, you can see that curved shape on both the exhibit photo and mine. These boots are indeed accurate Smile
