I'm making Leias ANH white gown. What's the best fabric to use? I was thinking maybe white poplin? |

What most people use is called "Jet Set," and it can be found pretty cheaply at JoAnn fabric. _________________

The more expensive option would be to make the version made out of silk, but of course, most go for the cheaper one. Just make sure the fabric has a nice drape, and buy enough for two full dresses. _________________

The Jet Set poly at JoAnn is what I used, however I highly recommend you finish the edges immediately after cutting out your pieces, as it frays terribly. It's also not wide enough for the sleeves to be as long as I wanted, so I ended up remaking mine with a seam at the waist. |

I think if you're taller than 5'5", a waist seam helps a lot in getting the sleeves long enough. _________________

Agreed. I'm about 5'5" and they were just a little short for my liking. Probably would've been approvable, but I personally didn't like the length. |

That is so true. I am 5'9" and even 60" wide fabric isn't nearly wide enough for making the sleeves long enough. I am so glad that a waist seam possible. |

The trick is to put in a place that it is completely covered by the belt, so we can't see it. _________________

There is a new Jet set.2 at joann's that is even better than the original. It is a dollar more a yard but it is so so worth it! Ive made this dress 3 times now and this new (new as of mid 2019) jet set is far superior to the old. its a little thicker and less see through, and seems to snag and run way less! |
