hi,
I'm Emilie, I'm from Paris, France.
So I find out this dress is a topic of interest right now... and I'm starting my own!
I bought the fabric today.
I thought I'd share with you.
So Here is the fabric I found for the outter dress :
(Bought today at Reine, Marché Saint-Pierre, ground floor, linen-kind of.)
9,90€/meter
And here for the inner dress :
It's taffeta, 19,90€/meter.
And these are the sewing patterns I'll be using to help me with the shapes :
OUTTER DRESS: vogue 9050
I picked this one because of the neckline cut, which should be convenient to change into a "star".
Also the center seam in very similar to the original dress ; and the two vertical side seams will make it easy to cut the "square" shape out. It's like, already traced. I'll just make it much longer and also, a little bit larger on the lower back (tail) to give it volume.
INNER DRESS : NewLook 6567
Options A or G should work okay. The leckline is low enough not to be visible under the outer dress. There are no seams in the front or in the waist, because Leia's dress doesn't show any : her inner dress is like, plain blue, almost in one piece.
I'll make it longer, down to the ground, as the dress should be.
I'm very happy with these resources. I hope you find them helpfull too!
cheers!

Bonjour Emile!
I'm interested in making the blue dress myself, so I'd like to follow your tread and wish you success.
About the underdress, some photos show a seam in the center front, like this one.
The proposal for the standard (it's here: http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78177) says:
Quote: |
2. INNER DRESS
Straight, ankle length dress made of a matte medium blue-gray, light-weight fabric (suggested: silk or silk-like fabric). The dress has a front center seam and narrow wrist-length sleeves. |
I just thought to let you know before you started cutting... |

Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news.
Can't you use the pattern anyway, adding that seam? |

Actually, I will.
But thank you for being super-aware! I would have been sorry to make a dress and find out afterwards that it doesn't meet the requirement.
Although i DID read the topic you quoted. I feel stupid now. |

It's really easy to add a fake seam by just pinching the fabric inside and sewing the existing fabric together. Otherwise, you could just cut a line down the front and sew it that way.
One thing to remember about the proposed standards is that they aren't finalized yet and that they could change before they are approved by the Costume Standards Committee, so keep your eye on them for changes. _________________

I looked at a larger file of the same image, and I'm pretty sure it has three points just like the dress, only the small ones are so small the last one is hard to see due to the angle. _________________

Hello!
Here are some updates about my Leia Blue Dress!
A friend of mine advised me against the pattern I had chosen for the outter-dress.
She helped me draw another one, that wouldn't have two sewing lines in the front.
So after many tests, here it is :
in purple : sewing lines.
in green : vilene.
http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=445242IMG4603.jpg
http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=513669IMG4604copie.jpg
So that's my final pattern. You can see it's been modified quite a lot. I actually had to sew three times the dress before getting the right look. :
First test :

Second test :
http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=324556IMG4552.jpg
(I'll spare you the third one)
And here is the achived outter-dress! I'll have to shorten it, but I'll do that when wearing my boots.
http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=182123IMG4606.jpg
It's worn over a beige dress, which is made from the pattern I'll be using for the final blue under-dress.
The hairpiece is ordered to https://www.facebook.com/DecorumetBagatelle
Tryouts on november 15th!
Jewels have been ordered to http://vegetalica.com/
I am very happy with the ring :

But very disappointed by the earings. I did pay for the order, but I'm looking for a new artist to make better ones.

Voilà!
I'm quite happy with my costume so far. I have the right fabric, nice accessories. It's going to look good! I'm looking forward to wearing it, and hopefully, ti have it approve by your judges to be able to sign up with the french Rebel Legion!

The standard hasn't been approved yet as it is still being discussed by the detachment. _________________

Lora Skywalker : remember there is a french version of the standard already prepared, I just need to add the small changes made since I posted them.
Cheers |
