Recently I started to create a set of Jedi Robes and one of Leia's outfits. I'm too young to apply for the Legion, but am using my year in waiting to create costumes that meet standards so that I can apply on my birthday. A friend of mine stated that she was rejected due to the fact that she did not resemble the character she applied for.

In all honesty, I highly doubt it, but wanted to get confirmation before I considered purchasing Padme's Lake dress.

Also, this is the dress I've considered purchasing. I understand it'll have to be modified, but will it work as a base?

I don't know the particular details about your friend, but we do not need to physically look like the character. If your friend had her application declined based on that, she can submit her application again.

What we do encourage is that you study all the reference images of the costume you want to submit, and make the appropriate modifications to your costume and accessories.

From what I've noticed, the main priority for a costume to be approved is the accuracy of the costume, the hairstyle, and makeup if it's a character that requires it (like alien supporters). Makeup is not really required for human characters, but it can be helpful in my opinion. Also, visible tattoos that do not belong to the character should be covered with makeup, but that's up to the Legion Costume Judges team.

I can't really think of anything else to add, but I think it's a small piece of advice.

For "face characters," there are sometimes specifics with the look, such as hair types, beards, and other distinguishing features. You don't have to look like the character exactly, but you may have to resort to wigs and other face applications. For someone like Padme and Leia, hairstyle is extremely important for approval.

In our Charter, it says, "The Rebel Legion values each member regardless of sex, race, religion, creed, nationality, sexual orientation, age, or physical handicap." We do not discriminate if a member does not look exactly like character in normal life. Do your best with your costume and hair and work towards approval.

Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Thank you for the clarification and the advice. Those standards definitely seem fair. I just wanted to be sure of requirements.

I can tell accuracy is key. Padme is definitely thinner than I am, but I do have the same hair color. I can mimic her hairstyles well enough with aid from hair extensions or kinekelon hair.

Is there a specific place one can get High resolution reference images? And as far as the application process goes, is there a place to seek opinions on costumes that are sold online to see if they meet Legion standards?

We also have a lot of reference images on the Galactic Senate web site: http://www.senate.rebellegion.com/?page_id=31

What's important is not what you look like, but the quality and accuracy of your costume, and how it fits you. For example, if I were to put on Carrie Fisher's dress from A New Hope, I would not get approved, because it would be too small for me, even though it is screen accurate.

It will depend how it looks on you, and what the back looks like, but that dress could be a good starting place.

I am not positive that this is the same seller I purchased my base from but if it is, you are off to a good start. I will tell you that the armbands are not well made and I had to make my own and replace them. The ones attached to that dress were silver and too big and attached with velcro. The necklace portion was also not correct and I had to cut if off and sew a bit so that it would hold and still be hidden under the necklace.

Good luck on your costume! This is one of my favorite's of Padme's. Smile

Thank you for this information! I plan on ordering it soon. Euro size slightly confuses me. I ordered a dress from this seller once in a medium and it was much too large. I'm not sure if the case would the same with this dress. I could always size it down, but I don't want to mar the fabric too much.

I have a friend who deals in jewelry making and is helping me with the necklace. As far as the armbands are concerned, I just considered creating them out of Worbala, but I'm not too sure how the painting would go.

Thank you for the information!!
