Hello,

I've been knocking around in Elstree Base for a little while as I progress along the build process for an Endor Trooper.

I took the plunge at Celebration Europe to costume for the first time and I want to improve it to a proper standard. No helmet, that's in build stages at the moment. Also, I know that the boots need to be the usual IDF commando style.

Here's the original look:

I've since altered the gaiter colour to the more appropriate tan.

There's also a Czech M60 backpack to add to the collection and 2 small canvas pouches to go on the belt around the waist. Am I going wrong anywhere else that I need to correct?

Hi there!

It looks like you have a very good start to the build!

From the picture you supplied, I think you would need to add (as taken from the CRL):

- Short, light-colored leather work gloves
- Helmet consisting of an AN-H-15 cloth helmet (or replica) with a ribbed strip on the top, a replica rigid outer ring, and cloth bill
- Olive Drab Belt with pouches

The IDF boots are preferred. Shirt needs to be tucked in.

The Czech M60 is optional but I think adding it or the hardpack makes a better looking costume overall.

The CRL states that 5-8 eyelets are needed for the gaiters and it looks like you have more. I don't know if that would disqualify you, but perhaps a LCJ could weigh in?

Also, what paint colors did you use for the camo? I think there may be too much of the yellowish color (perhaps olive bright) on your pants. Make sure you take advantage of the reference photos and tutorials available here for camo painting.

Keep up the good work! endor trooper

Gloves and belt I have already. Tucking the shirt in? Not sure I could ever do that!

Colours are less off the shelf here in the UK. I used mixes of Dylon to get different colours and shades. It's predominantly green with a 360 degree view.

Gaiters can be modified relatively easily to drop a couple of eyelets.

What's the guidance on lab coat pockets?

I've left mine as is but I have read that the breast pocket should be removed, likewise the buttons.

I'll tone down some of the bright green on the trousers, washing it out to the tan underneath.

Headwear is in process a little bit at a time. Gaiters are down to 8 eyelets. IDF boots inbound. Belt is ready with a couple of 58 pattern webbing pouches to add on.

I am right in thinking there's not too much wrong beyond what's been mentioned and addressed?

I'll let Phyllis and David know that you need some guidance.

Well...
at this point in time we only have one photo to look at and you sound like you have changed quite a bit of it...
so..
I would suggest putting on the new pieces and take a couple of new photos as to where you are at now...

I rinsed off the coat and trousers last night to soften the colours then took a step back and thought about it. The scheme just isn't right. The screen pattern is more like feather edged ellipical patches than the more linear pattern I applied.

The coat could be retouched with a spray gun or coarse airbrush but I think the trousers need to go back to the beginning. The olive "branches" are too linear. They're a bit tight anyway so I'll source some more comfortable ones and redo then from scratch.

I'm due to receive a Swedish M40 parka today that I'll dye beige and give that a go with a proper pattern.

It's all a learning experience.

Even as I type there's an M40 parka, tan BDU trousers and a long sleeve t shirt having a dose of Dylon Pebble Beige in the washing machine.

We go again.

I put the 0.5mm needle into one of my airbrushes and had a "practice" with the old lab coat I'd washed.

I've still got the olive bright equivalent to apply but it's so much more like it should be even if it's a bit light on the base colour underneath.

You should have more of the tan base coat showing through...

Yes, all part of setting up the airbrush and getting a feel for the dye application using it. It's not a finished piece and I'm using that garment as a test bed.

It'll get there in the end.
