Hello all!

First off, I'm super excited to be in the process of making a costume for the Rebel Legion. I cannot wait to get this done and start trooping with the Mos Espa Base.

I thought I'd start a thread so I can share my progress. I've obtained the donut (tk560), pants, snow jacket, soft pack, undershirt, belt, pouches, blaster (hasbro E-11, because I can use it with other costumes if I want later) and bandolier. I've ordered the hasbro conversion kit from Darthhair for the E-11, but it hasn't arrived yet. Paint for the pants and jacket is on the way. Vest and soft cap are being sewn by Stephanie Bradley. I'm still in the process of obtaining materials for the gaiters.

Here's the progress so far:

Donut is put together and bondoed. I'm waiting on the cap to arrive before I finish it.

Greeblies for the soft pack from Pieter are on the way but here's its current state.

Bandolier is done!

Question about the gaiters:

Is OD still an approved color?

It seems to be, as it is listed in the how to. Though what I did and what i've seen most people do is make them out of khaki and weather them with od and brown for mud...

Most are tan. The thing to do would be to find out what the others in Mos Espa wear so you'll match.

Remember, it is a Tan uniform with SOME camouflage applied as a "field expedient". We get far too many "100% green" submissions.

My "Camo Rule of Thumb": When you think you are halfway done with a color - STOP.

1st color

Lots of "empty" space

2nd Color

Even less than the first color

3rd color

Not much at all.

4th Color

Just a couple of small "shots" of the bright green.

Don't forget inside the hood and around the inside edges!

I cut some plastic from a for-sale sign and sewed a cover for the bill. Helmet is done!

Always keep in mind that the donut is more level to the deck than not. Just as Greg said about the green submissions we get far too many helmets rocked back on the head. Movie references show them to be level.

I always paint gear for my Base troopers so we match. And i use Gregs style to paint the coats and pants.

I think I have figured out why so many of the Donuts on submissions are rocked back.

On a real AN-H-15 flight cap there is a small leather visor sewn onto the front of the soft cap.
That visor comes down a full inch lower than the soft cap cloth does.

On the patterns for making a replica AN-H-15 soft cap, there is no small visor pattern and most replicas never have that small visor added. They only add the large Movie visor and it is usually sewn directly to the edge of the cloth, Which happens to be 1 inch higher than where the movie visor would be on a genuine AN-H-15.

This keeps the front of the Donut 1 inch higher than it should be.

An extra inch of material really needs to be added to the front of the soft cap patterns so the large movie visor is sewn on in a lower position, which in turn will allow the Donut to sit lower in the front so it doesn't look rocked back.

This is one of the reasons why I usually recommend attaching the large movie visor directly to the Donut, and not to the replica AN-H-15 soft cap.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Perhaps I should have provided a side profile shot with the front one. The donut was fairly level when I took that shot, but maybe the camera placement made it look like it was rocked back further. I blame the photographer (It was me). I'll make sure the same mistake isn't repeated when I submit for approval.

I do think Droidwelder is on to something with the rocked back issue in past submissions. My visor is attached to the donut with hot glue. At proper wear level, the visor is situated about 3/4 of an inch lower on my head than the brim of the AN-H-15 replica. It leaves a nasty line on my forehead. Perhaps others were trying to avoid the visor pressing into their forehead? I've seen a few past WIP threads using CostumeBase soft caps. Those do have the visor sewn directly on to the cap.

I am painting the jacket and pants tonight. I'll keep in mind that more green ≠ more accurate. I have some reference photos at the ready.

Once the painting is done, I'll just have to wait until my boots arrive to weather them and the gaiters. That's it!
