Over the years I have slowly been acquiring the correct, original components to build a screen accurate ANH bowcaster. A couple of years ago I came across the a set of Original Model 7 scopes and also bought the correct variant of the Single Point Scope. A friend helped me find all the correct camera and amplifier knobs and bits for the side panels.

Today, the main piece arrived from England: a Horton Magnum crossbow. Not to be confused with the Horton Magnum Safari. This is the ultra-rare crossbow used to build Chewbacca's bowcaster. It's an aluminum crossbow with a nylon plastic coating.

As far as I know I am only the third SW fan to acquire one of these.

I can also tell you why they are virtually impossible to find:

The crossbow usually has no markings at all. Mine has a decal identifying it as a Horton Crossbow made in Wales, in the city of Merthyr Tydfil, but the model is not listed. I saw one other that didn't even have this.
So in order to find one you have to search sites like Gunstar and look at the pictures of pretty much every crossbow on there.

The previous owner simply contacted me out of the blue after seeing all of my postings on Chewbacca and Bowcaster stuff. Complete dumb luck. The owner happened to be a Star Wars fan and prop geek who knew what it was. They inherited it from a relative who had also inherited it.

For the ANH bowcaster virtually every part has now been identified. Just have to ID the barrel assembly, barrel support (both are probably from a "goat's foot" crossbow cocking lever, probably made by Horton) and the front open sight.

Awesome find! Congratulations and sounds like your screen accurate Bowcaster journey is nearing completion. So when can the rest of the unfortunate folk expect some copies? Smile

Never made a mold of these parts, I'm afraid. They are still sitting on a shelf in my basement. I may get them 3D scanned since I have a friend who has access to an industrial 3D scanner.
