Hi! First of all, I hope I've posted in the right section. I'm working on a Nien Nunb costume right now and the reference pictures are very poor or uncertain regarding anything involving Nien Nunb below the chest. My biggest issue is the belt.
Judging by this screencap, which I have brightened:
I don't get the impression of a belt at all, even though there is a dark area there that one could presume is a belt. What do you think? |

It's hard to say whether he has a belt on or not. In references he's usually shown wearing a black leather belt with a silver rectangular buckle (similar to an Imperial officer style), but that's usually on artwork and action figures and such. I don't think that there are any movie preferences that clearly show if he has a belt on or not. _________________ B-wing Pilot - Jedi - Resistance X-wing Pilot - Temmin "Snap" Wexley

From the TFA Visual Dictionary:
It looks like a standard X-Wing Belt with the pull strap left on the buckle.
It also appears to be an alternate suit design with belt loops and knee pads.
I am unsure on the boots but they appear to be a rubber over boot of some sort.
I hope that helps... _________________ There is NO Orange Mafia |

I think Railok is talking about the Return of the Jedi Nien Nunb. The RotJ and TFA costumes are completely different. _________________ B-wing Pilot - Jedi - Resistance X-wing Pilot - Temmin "Snap" Wexley

Precisely, it's the ROTJ Nien Nunb which I am making and I must say that it's turning out to be more difficult than I expected!
My biggest worry is whether or not the costume would be accepted if I presented it without the belt. Actual reference material, like I mentioned, is poor and I can only make assumptions from non-canon and dubious sources (i.e. action figures, etc). |

Because there are no clear pictures that show whether a belt is there or not it isn't necessarily required, as far as I understand. _________________ B-wing Pilot - Jedi - Resistance X-wing Pilot - Temmin "Snap" Wexley

I'm very interested in this thread. I want to make a ROTJ Nien Nunb but I dont know the parts of the costume. The jumpsuit is like the b wing pilot? The best is the Han Solo's vest? Boots and gloves are the same of the x wing pilots?..... _________________

Nien's vest is a bit different then Han's only two pockets up near the chest area with triangular shaped pocket lids. |

You can't really use figures as a base but this will give you an idea.
Click to see a bigger image, might need to brighten them a bit as well.
You can see the top of the pockets here:
Mike Quinn the puppeteer said that he actually had an LED comm under the pocket but was never seen in the movie as they kept the camera higher.. and notice it pretty much comes straight down from the neck.
I also sent you a PM. |

I've got a screen shot of NN's back view, behind Llando and Han and he's wearing a white belt showing just below the waistcoat, with black buckle at the back. If you PM me your email Stefan, I can send it to you as I confess I don't know how to put it up here. |
