I've got something started for those of us in the Omaha, NE area.

I talked with Maureen at Barnes & Noble at the Crossroads Mall. She like the idea of us being there, although she has no info about how many books she will be getting or what kind of promotional materials either. She wants me to get back with her at the beginning of April to work out more details, but as of now it looks like this is a go.

April 24th

Barnes & Noble - Crossroads Mall

Time: TBD

Activities: TBD

Joint Op - Rebel Legion & 501st

Talked with Maureen yesterday. She is very excited about having Star Wars characters there. She and I discussed possibly having a similar schedule that the 501st had when the DVD's were released in September.

Tuesday morning/day 11-1?
Tuesday evening 6:30-8:30?
Saturday day 11-1?

She is hoping for about 8-10 characters per time and ordered extra books hoping our presence will entice people to buy.

She also is looking into having a changing room for the plastic lovers of us.

Dates: April 24th and 28th
Location: Barnes & Noble
Crossroads Mall
72nd Street & Dodge Street
Omaha, NE
Times: see above

This is a joint 501st / Rebel Legion event.

I can come as costume support if you'd like. Heather is working on re-sewing the seems on my robes and she said she won't have them back to me until after C4 with all the costumes she's working on.

That would be great Jeff, although this might turn out to be a non-event. You're my only response out of both groups so far. Crying or Very sad

Sorry Rob!

Not sure if I can swing the Tuesday due to having to sleep and pick up my daughter from school, but I can definitely be there for the Saturday!

Thanks guys! It looks like Saturday will definitely be the big day. So far I have 8 costumed personnel and Jeff as costume support. Tuesday looks like 2 people in the morning and 2-3 in the evening. I'll talk with Maureen again and see if she still wants the Tuesday times or just wants to go with Saturday.

Update

Tuesday is out for both times, so we will only have a Saturday event from 11am - 1pm.

They will block one of the restrooms for our use as a changing room.

Weapons are perfectly OK.

They are telling the mall that we will be there, so I don't see any reason we can't roam a little.

They would like us to concentrate on the main entrance from outside. They don't get as much traffic from the mall. The great majority of their patrons come in from the outside doors.

Those of you with intricate/involved costumes know how much time you need to get changed. I plan on being there at about 10:30am.

Thanks everyone for joining in on this as this is only my second event I'm coordinating, and any other assistance some of the more senior members could give would be appreciated. Very Happy

After Action Report

Event: Members of the 501st Legion Central Garrison, Rebel Legion Central Base, and OFF Junior Brigade participated in a book promotion event at Barnes & Noble, Crossroads Mall, Omaha, NE. The book "The Making Of Star Wars" was released on 4-24-07.

Rebel Legion:

Rebel Fleet Trooper - Rob Carmichael
Rebel Fleet Trooper - Mark Tomasello
Rebel Fleet Trooper - Heather Tomasello

501st Legion:

IG-4909 - Maria Cutshall
TK-9675 - Chris Haave
TK-1375 - Jason Neurath
TB-750 - John Jaeckel
TB-1631 - Chris Deaton

OFF Junior Brigade:

Foam Trooper - Sabrina Carmichael
Imperial Officer - Dallas Tomasello

Photographers:

Jeff Schipmann - OFF/RL member
Misty Jaeckel

Things the went well:
We were well received by the staff at Barnes & Noble and we had many compliments on the quality of our costumes. All patrons were friendly as well as mall security. The manager closed off a restroom for our use as a changing/storage room. We had a crew from KPTM, FOX 42 news arrive for media attention.

Things that could have gone better:
There was a miscommunication about the media presence. It is apparently against corporate policy for Barnes & Noble to have pictures and/or video taken in the store. Once we found this out, all pictures were taken outside. The management was not upset with us per se, but more so at the FOX crew. According to B&N management, FOX should have asked permission before filming. This is something that we are aware of now, and can ask appropriate questions in future event planning.

After the event:
Most of the group went to Chili's next door for lunch and camaraderie!

In closing:
The event went very well. B&N was very happy with us. There were no "unhappy" incidents except for the media mishap. However, we did get on the evening news!

Corporate policy? That's the first I've heard of this...we've taken pictures at our events at various B&N stores with no problem.
Looks like it was a great time though!

That's what we were told, but it didn't dampen our spirits! Very Happy
