It's referred to as a "two-gang" electrical box.

Here is what the one Phyllis has looks like from the front:

You can find similar ones at Lowe's, but Home Depot caries the more square Carlon ones:

I wanted to post this here too......

About what may have been originally used in the movie for the HTT vest:

While looking through the topics in this forum for reference pictures, I noticed this one:

In one of the other threads, someone pointed out that in this photo, it appears that the front center (neck opening) of the jacket is NOT quilted.

I have been looking at this one for a while & thinking about how that could possibly be and / or what exactly are we seeing here??

I am now convinced that what we are seeing here in this photo is NOT the top of the jacket (behind the vest neck opening), but rather an other piece of fabric, which in this case is the scarf.

There is also an other very interesting thing that this picture shows: The center front (opening) of the vest.

I am convinced that this piece was a 'found object' actually a WWII era military life vest. The front opening of this vest DID indeed include a zipper. In this photo you can see that something was covered up by a narrow piece of fabric vertically down the front. I am convinced that this is hiding a zipper.

.....and now that makes a whole lot more sense.......

While I was building mine, I had done a lot of research of what exactly this piece may have been.

What was used in the movie has many elements similar to these vintage WWII era European military life vests:

Some of them have multiple straps in the backs. (attaches to other equipment worn by military personnel)
Some have the 2 belt loops in the front. (will stay on better)
Some have zipper fronts. (easy to remove in an emergency)
Some are very puffy. (can keep you floating while waiting to be rescued)
Some are white. (better visibility in the water)

I am convinced that what was used in the movie was a vintage military surplus item, probably European.

in my due diligence to search the interwebs, I came across this.

I am NO Hoth expert and defer to the true experten here.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/star-wars-prop-/141520085629?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item20f341227d

Can those in the know give us feedback on this piece? Shes offering it in three color options:

1-light tan and taupe
2 white and taupe
3 white and grey

roll the photo slideshow to the side, there is a pic of the colors.

contact TKvanB who posted above your post...
and see if she is planning on doing another "run" of hats..

I am not blown away by the hat that you have linked to above...
especially for $155.00!

For that kind of $$ ...it should be a lot better...
but that is just my opinion...

.......it looks like some one was looking at my construction notes & images. Rolling Eyes

There are many pictures posted in that auction, but I wonder what it looks like on the inside? From the way that it is constructed on the outside, I have a feeling that I might know why.

And, since there is a color / size choice option available, it would lead me to believe that there are not 3 hats already built. Who knows how the next one(s) will turn out? What will they look like? Will they fit? ....and how long it will really take to build?

I think, from far away & with a scarf & goggles and the rest of a Hoth uniform, this hat that it pictured would look ok. I mean, people would recognize it as a Hoth hat. Whether it is constructed well is unknown. The buyer does not offer returns.

So as with all eBay purchases, I would strongly suggest "BUYER BEWARE"

I was, in fact, looking at potentially suitable Hoth hat fabric yesterday. I saw a woven cotton that I thought had a fantastic color - I compared it to one of mine that I was wearing, had a great weight & texture and there was a contrast color that matched in the same fabric. I think it was about $10.00 per yard. I am going to estimate that it would take about 1 yard of fabric and allow 1/2 yard (or more) of contrast per hat.

I did not buy any yet. I need to see how much of what else I will need (threads, interfacing, batting, stabilizer, velcro, etc.) and I will see if I can buy the materials in many separate trips so that I can use coupons if possible to lower the cost of materials if possible.

I thought about 'saving money' and buying cheap stuff.

I thought about that for about 2 seconds.

If and when I build more of these hats, I will be spending a LOT of time (about 20 hours per hat) building these to be as nicely made & durable as possible. There fore, I will buy the best materials possible because I want my hats to look good & be worn for decades.

To me, those pictures posted of the 'alternate colors' look more like digital adjustments made to the images.

Again, my 2 cents (for an eBay purchase) = "BUYER BEWARE"

Hi,

Just for your information, I really made three diffrents hats because many people see diffirence color on the screen and on picture. I can make it in 3 hours. I made by myseilf the pattern from pictures in book" Star Wars costumes the original trilogy". I made many star wars costumes for 15 years ago. I went to differents comiccon in Canada. I don't like your comment "beware seller" that you tell about me. I'm on ebay for 15 years and my clients know can trust me. Thank you!

Sorry to offend. One never knows with eBay auctions. I know many folks who have been burned before. Better to err on the side of caution.

However, since you are the seller and on these forums, anyone reading these forums would certainly be able to get in contact with you & find out more details etc. That is good. Smile

apollo

we never know whom a seller on Ebay is. And I myself have just lost 400 dollars that Ill never see via an international Ebay transaction. The standing order of this costume club is always, and with everyone whom we do not know personally

"buyer beware"

this aslo extends to our "trusted vendors" as we have had issues with them as well.

would you post up some photos of the inside of the hat so we can see it?
