I had started work on this early in the year but got bored and put it away for awhile, but with the premiere being in December I thought a warm costume might be nice! I got the base mock-up of my jumpsuit together:

I used the Out-Of-Print Kwik-Sew pattern 2624. I'm actual Princess Leia sized though, so I did have to make a lot of changes to the bodice of the pattern to make it fit. I think all the sides had to be taken in a good inch or two on each side, shortened considerably, and the arm-holes completely re-worked, but, the pattern wasn't made for someone 5'00", I don't think I had to make any alterations to the princess seams. Now I just have to refine the shape and figure out the proportions on the quilted pieces that go on top.
I had also started building this wig out of Arda hair, but I'm worried about how thick it is going to be, because there's this much hair in it already and I'm not half-way through it yet.

The start of the jumpsuit looks good.
As for the hair, I'd say you currently have about the thickness of one of her braids, if that's any help to you. _________________

I'm not sure, my idea was to build a Carrie-length wig and then add hair pieces to it, but it's going to be thick and heavy already (like Arda wigs tend to be anyway) We'll see. It's the only option so far with a decent brown. Most browns I find are almost black.
I'm learning something about this jumpsuit pattern; it is NOT WORTH IT if you are tiny. Even though the measurements on the envelope are smaller than mine, the jumpsuit is so freakin huge that I'm basically redrafting the whole thing. Trying to fix some "minor" pants fitting issues and coming to find the shape is not good for fitted pants at all. I wonder if anyone's had better luck with modern patterns, because if I can't fix these issues myself I'm going to have to start from scratch! (I hate pants. Grr...) _________________

Well, you already know my opinion about pants, so I'm with you there.
I really hope you can get the pattern to work without having to start from scratch. _________________

Realized I hadn't posted my progress on this, I'm in the middle of a move and hadn't been able to sew, boo!
I wrote up a blog entry if anyone is interested, a little more about using this pattern and also a bit about how I use photoshop in recreation costuming: http://rebelshaven.blogspot.com/2015/10/hoth-leia-patterning-and-using.html
This is my final mock-up test shot. I like to find some reference pictures from front, back and side with good seam shots and then take pictures in my mock-up in the same poses, and then layer them over each other in photoshop and compare how well my seam lines match up and my placement of the patches. I had tried drafting the lozenge-shape pads from pictures before realizing they are simply pure circles at the top. D'oh. The blue ribbon is a proposed seam adjustment, and the red and blue dots are so I can see where the seam lines are when I layer the two images in photoshop.
Random boot study pic I did. I'm going to go with the flat mukluk's rather than the wedge Millennium Falcon version.
I found a nice chunk of gray suede on sale at Tandy and I miiiight experiment with my airbrush and suede dye to see if I can get that slight blue tint to them, we'll see! I just have to find a good shoe base to build these on! _________________

I'm still working on this, but my perfectionist bug is slowing me down. I had just purchased some lining material at JoAnns for the suit because it's what was commercially available, but that bugged me, so I ordered 4 yds of supplex and three different kinds of dye to take the white down a tad (and to dye the vest material) so that'll take me awhile.
I'm almost done sewing wefts to my wig and am going to start ventilating hair in it soon. I have another set of wefts to make the large braid, but I still can't find a clear enough picture of the back of her head. Best I can tell, she has one large braid that starts under one ear and crosses over itself in the back. Anyone happen to have any clearer pictures of this?? _________________

Actually, she has two braids that criss cross and where the ends of each braid is hidden under the other braid. I have some extra pictures somewhere on my computer... I'll have to see if I can find them and shoot them your way.
The behind the scenes pictures suggest that the braids starts behind each ear, but that does not fit in well with her lack of a part. I'd probably start both at the back of the head in a manner similar to that of Elizabethan hair taping, except they used a load of hair pins to keep the braids in place instead of ribbon. (Yes, I think I have a picture proving that, too, somewhere. Or maybe it was on my old-old computer).
Anyway, there's two braids with a crazy amount of hair. _________________
