Hi all, been awhile.
I'm just now getting to the point where I'm finishing up some stuff for my costume and I do have one concern.
I have 4 Lightsabers but the only one that is in a 'good guy' color is a Crossguard saber, like the one shown in EP. 7 trailers and such.
From what I understand no Jedi have really used this kind of saber since its so new, is it something than can be approved? or should I start working on a static hilt. Thanks. |

Not a judge...
I would say you need a Jedi color in a Jedi style hilt. The easy solution might be to change the LED in one of the hilts you have now. |

This is the Lightsaber in question. It definitely looks more "Jedi" and the LEDs are blue...But I'm just worried about it being a cross guard. If not then I'll probably order me something new. My other sabers look a little too "sithy"

I'd hit it.. errm.. I'd submit it.
just stick blade plugs in the side-emitters if they have a problem with it. *shrug* _________________

Maybe one of the judges will respond. The cross-guard saber is definitely non-canon for Jedi, so I have no idea what a judge would say. |

Generally, the judges don't usually take hilts into consideration when judging a costume...
mainly (of course) we look at the blade color.
We do, however, avoid known Sith face characters like Darth Vader, Count Dooku etc....
As I recall, we have had members submit with Darth Maul double lightsabers that have changed the blade color and minimally changed coloration on the hilt as well....and those were accepted.
The cross guard saber is something that we have not discussed really...so..
with that in mind
and since you already have the saber...
my advice to you would be to submit the application with the saber and see what happens.. _________________

Because these sabers are not known to exist in ep 1 2 or 3 id say youd need proper reference of these sabers not being a "new" thing. Its like holding a cel phone at a historical battle reenactment. Just the wrong time period. I have no clue if that makes any sense.
SPOILERS: Also and furthermore at this point we ONLY know the Knights of Ren to use them and at this point The Knights of Ren are Cannon Dark Side Using Bad Guys
anyways TLDR: Right place, wrong time period _________________

That hasn't been officially established yet. |
Bingo. Which is why I said "at this point"
But it still doesn't help the fact that a jedi 30 yrs before that carrying around a Lightsaber "of the future" _________________

Well, there was Roblio Darte. He's from the comic books. He had somewhat of a crossguard saber. _________________ Some people cucumber taste better pickle. |

IMO, Until shown other3wise, the crossguard is a face character, unique saber and we shouldn't approve it for Jedi use. Even if 10 dark side users have one, we still shouldn't approve it for Jedi use until it is shown to be a Jedi weapon as well. |

Ezra Bridger will be aquiring a cross guard saber in Rebels this season. From what I gather, it's supposed to be an ancient design, that Kylo threw togethor or something. |

Any update on this now that the Rebels finale has aired showing a green crossguard saber to be canon? _________________

Is there more than one or is it just an Ezra item? Does anyone actually carry it? In general, one off items tend to be an item for a specific character so if you're doing the specific character, then you can use it, but if it's only used by one character it doesn't extend to the generic costumes. |

It was a saber Ezra found on Malachor that sputtered out right after he turned it on, and you could see some similar hilts on the ground. So it's pretty implicated to be that it's an older "generic" style that fell out of general use, similar to Dooku's curved hilt.
So not an Ezra hero hilt, just a generic found one that's there to say the style existed well before Kylo. _________________
