|

Hi! I received a new Leia gown that I had commissioned specifically so that everything would fit RL standards. I got it today and noticed the closure is not what I expected at all, and I'm wondering if it's approvable, or if I have to continue to tear my hair out in an attempt to fix this issue.
It has hooks all the way down the back like this:
Obviously that makes the "keyhole" opening much larger than it is supposed to be, and if I were to fasten all of them, there wouldn't be a keyhole at all.
Is this okay, or do I need to somehow figure out a way to change it? _________________

I'm sorry, but the keyhole is way too large.
You basically need to remove the hooks and eyes and sew it up until the second last set before the collar. The two at the collar are fine. _________________

Yeah, that's what I thought. It doesn't even look like a keyhole when fastened all the way up, either, which is equally frustrating. I'm trying to see if she can change it for me to make it accurate, or else I'll be stuck with a dress I can't even get approved. _________________

Damn. Try removing the top set beneath the collar, put it on and see how it looks? Do you have a sewing machine so you could alter this? _________________

I don't. I have zero seeing ability so unless I send it back (an idea I'm not exactly keen on doing) there isn't a whole lot I could do to fix it. I could always wear my old dress but it's showing the fact that it's old and I don't even know if it could get approved—but it has a keyhole that's the correct size. _________________

Yeah, I would suggest removing the hooks/eyes in the keyhole and trying to hand sew (slip stitch) the keyhole shut a bit. |

I have absolutely no sewing talent and don't really know anyone that does, so I told the seller I would rather send it back to her. The hood is also kind of short and the dress doesn't appear to blouse properly when belted, so I'd rather have everything refunded than attempt to fix an inaccurate dress and potentially mess it up in the process.
Now my problem is that I'm back to square one. At least I know to tell the next person to make the keyhole smaller.
Speaking of keyhole size, do either of you have any good reference pictures that show it off? I only have one, that looks like a wardrobe test shot, and it's extremely small. Other than that, you can't really see it. I'd like to provide whoever it is I find to make me the dress some photos to make sure this doesn't happen again. _________________

This is about the best back shot I've seen, and it dosn't help much.
You want the keyhole to be big enough that you can get into the dress, but not much bigger than than. I can measure mine when I get home tonight if that would help. |
