|
|
|
Hello, I am working on submitting my costume for approval, but have a question on the ANH Belt. In the costume standards, it states that the vinyl or leather belt should not not be "shiny", but for the metal plates are they to be shiny silver or opaque silver? Is it okay to use plastic pieces that are painted silver metallic, either shiny or opaque? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

The plates should definitely be opaque, that is, we should not be able to see through them. Do you mean shiny or matte?
If so, the belt leather should be matte, but the plates should be shiny-ish metal. We would accept plates that are painted and chromed made of other materials as long as they appear to be metal (think C-3PO). If they are obviously painted or obviously not metal, they would not be acceptable. _________________

I don't think they will be accepted. The plates in the picture look like they have borders inside the shape, and the material looks too much like plastic.
A good tutorial to make the belt

I agree, they are just too thick and don't look metal enough. Actually making the plates out of tin and button blanks is fairly easy. _________________

Thank you for the advice and for the tutorial link, Jenna and Angie. I will give it a try.
And, a synthetic matte vinyl or "pleather" is acceptable for the belt fabric? |

Yes. My belt is made out of upholstery fabric from Joann's. I double-layered mine so it's more firm. _________________ Dowager Queen Delegation Leader 2015-2017
