The Westars are probably the easiest part, which is why I am doing them...nice and square-ish, and within my and my jig saw's skills level. The armor and helmet is ordered (I am not a good enough artist to try to pain that!) and the sister in law is starting on the shirt and pants...

I do have a beef with the CRL in that it requires a wig or hair coloring. The wife wears glasses (her eyes are too bad for contacts), and thus will keep the helmet on the whole time. The CRL, IMHO, should be either the helmet or the wig, but only both if the wearer is going to take the helmet off...

I am so glad you are doing this WIP on this character!

I am also going to direct the judges in charge of this category over here to watch your progress etc...and offer advice.

lol...
no...you are not in trouble...
it is often helpful to have the judges look in and give advice as you go along.

the reasoning behind the wig is that is to match Sabine so when the helmet is off person will look like Sabine and not just a mando. plus wigs are a little easier to manage for those in hotter climates. If you can you might want to post a pic of the fabrics you are planning to use before they are sewn just because we have had some issues with the pieces being too dark

So far we have got the inner (lighter) part of the pants:

Let me know what you think of the shade. My sister in law is a tailor and plans to sew the darker shade on top of this.

Speaking of which, is there a particular specific shade or color for the darker part that we should use to compare to?

The Westars I made are in a previous reply. I am next going to work on the holsters. My thinking is balsa or plastic frame with suede or brown leather/pleather.

I understand the idea behind the wig. The wife, however, must wear glasses (she has glaucoma and other significant eye issues and can not wear contacts comfortably or safely), so she is never going to take the helmet off, since Sabine doesn't wear glasses. Just think its a bit silly to spend $20+ on a wig she will never wear. I understand the concept behind the wig on the CRL and don't want to rock the boat, but I would rather spend $20 on something more useful.

Thanks! Appreciate any and all help we can get!

for colors - check this thread: http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=63105 the color you have for the inner pants looks right on.

You might want to check some of the Sabine WIPs that are found here: http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=29 and you might actually want to copy and paste this thread to that forum as you will more likely get the most input from there than here in your base forum.

I believe it is ok for your wife to wear her glasses on troops (I wear mine for Aunt Beru now that the doctor has forbidden me to be without them except when sleeping or showering), she just needs to not have them on for the action photo when she submits. Glasses are a medically assistive device just like leg braces, wheelchairs and scooters.

The only time anyone would be picky about no glasses is if you are at an officially sanctioned Lucasfilm event - high profile things - like on TV.

Hey, can we help it if earth does not have bacta like the other planets do?

From the standard: Holster Belt must be a medium brown leather or leather like material that secures via metal rectangular buckle in front. Must feature 2 drop holsters with an angular design. Must have two metallic loops on either side of the belt buckle with the holster connecting between the buckle and the loop. Must feature two horizontal metallic loops where the holster connects to the belt in the back.

A lot of the apps miss the metal parts. Unless your guns are really heavy, the pleather by itself should be strong enough to hold them. Craft foam can make a good base and is a little easier on the legs than plastic if you need something to hold the shape.

Your paint on the guns should look similar to these:

You probably have looked at this but these are some pretty good reference shots for all things season 1 Sabine: http://s32.photobucket.com/user/Eitanya1138/library/Sabine%20References

There are some big changes in color scheme for season 2 so we will have to work on a CRL for that soon I suspect.

In addition to the reference pics she used, I am using Eitanya's pictures of her actual costume as a guide as well. At first, I didn't understand what was meant by "loops" as I thought "I don't see any circular loop looking things", but I think I see what you mean. They are the metallic pieces right below the belt:

Here in the back

and in the front.

To me, it looks like she used just a solid linear piece rather than a true "loop" - if you look closely you can even see the leather on the side of the one. Is that ok?

Sabine's holsters look very "boxy" to me, both animated and in Eitanya's costume, which is why I thought that some wood, plastic or foam to keep the shape would be important. It will probably boil down somewhat to how heavy a leather/pleather I find to use.

We saw that season 2 will feature a Sabine with more blue tones. I think we will stick to season 1 Sabine for now.
