I have acquired fabric with the screen accurate underdress embroidery pattern. However, it's not brocade (or damask, jacquard as the CRL states)- it is an off-white organic heavy cotton sateen. The CRL states a brocade like-fabric that doesn't have to have the accurate pattern. But, I have the accurate pattern that's not a brocade-like fabric (or damask, jacquard).

Would this still be acceptable?

Can you post a photo of the fabric?

No problem, here's two shots of the underdress fabric (one is wrinkled sorry, it's been on the project shelf), the shells for the headdress and the crushed taffeta for the surcoat.

Since it is the screen accurate design, I would think that it is acceptable, however, I am not one of the costume judges and can't give a yes/no. Looks good, though!!

(I'm also working on this one - haven't had much time lately to work on it due to teaching schedule and other projects at school.)

Keep posting updates!

I would say that if you can get it to hang with the correct weight, it would be acceptable. This might require you flat-lining it with something heavier to get it to hang right, so you may want to play with that before you do your final sewing.

Awesome, thanks! I agree. I've thought about also flatlining it with a cotton batting inbetween and maybe doing enough quilting to simulate the brocade, or actually embroidering the heavier lines.

LaVonne- too cool- what are you making the headdress out of? I've done the black travel gown (not approvable because it's the concept art in DaG), so I love making the headdresses. I was thinking of a wire frame and covered in sculpted thermoplastic for Jamillia. I've got a notch system figured out for her hair pieces.

On a tanget... This is concept art for the invasion gown I made from Dressing a Galaxy- http://www.padawansguide.com/amidala/blackinvasion/black_invasion_concept.jpg

Just for the records, the original underdress is NOT brocade. It's a very short piled velveteen, I think it's cotton, and the designs on it are embroidered. No brocade on that original gown.
I do agree on the flatlining though; that's something even I did with the embroidered velveteen on my own gown.

That costume is fabulous! I've always liked the concept art for this one. Nicely done!!

Jamilla headpiece. I created a wire frame, covered it with PaperClay. For the shells, I used Drum Wrap (I believe Naergi suggested it in her making of blogsite.). I'm going to be remaking this as I did not like the shape of it. I was in sort of a hurry as we were preparing for our big local convention and needed it in some presentable form for a panel I was giving.

Thank you for that confirmation! Very Happy Perusing through the reference photos and re-watching the movie, I was convinced it wasn't brocade. I wasn't sure what it was, but the texture did not behave/refract light like brocade. Perhaps a costume judge can initiate the change to the CRL Wink

Thank you both for all your help, you've been fantastic!

Hopefully with Jamillia I can actually become a member instead of making costumes for members. Amadalia
