The cut out in the back is about 3 times deeper than it needs to be.

to me the helmet looks squashed, as if not tall enough.

here are the screenshots, but also, Studio Creations measured each of the props with a known dimension at Celebration some years ago and created this rather definitive explanation:

Ok... I think I see what I need to work on. I did see those pictures before...
but somehow never got the shape clearly in my head.

So if I take the helmet Leia is wearing here below

It almost looks like they took a bit of in the front for the cap and added it below at the back I'll try to match that shape in version 2

Anyway... I hope there is someone who can give some me dimensions to work with like length and width & height at the ear level and length and width at bottom ring

again I'm grateful for the feedback... it is very helpful

It means I can start doing my WIP with pictures
thread soon.... and stop flooding the forum Embarassed

There are some measurements in this old instructable of mine.

Just an FYI: I believe that there are some variations in the actual shape of the helmets seen on screen.
It looks to me like there are "stunt" versions (if you will) as well as "hero" versions.
The Hero versions will be Luke and Leia's of course.
These are the screen grabs that I based my vac-formed helmet sculpt off of.

You can see that the bottom side of the helmet looks to be quite a bit wider than the top giving the sides a decent amount of slope.

Going back and looking at pics of other background troopers I see that most of their helmets look like the sides are not nearly as sloped looking. Some almost look like the sides are straight up and down with very little slope to them. I notice some other differences in the back recess as well.
(sorry I don't have photo links to post)

Of course with the helmets I offer, I wanted to make sure they would fit as many people as possible (one-size-fits-all) and made the bottom edge a bit wider, giving the sides a little more slope than what appears on screen.

And I am pretty sure that there are only 8 slots on the back recessed area.
It looks like on your drawing you have nine.

Thanks.... The idea was I could maybe 3D print one...
But given I can only use a shared printer, and need to buy the stuff to print there... it became a expensive option..... especially if you made a measurement mistake and had to reprint it... Embarassed

So.. I'm looking at other options Smile

we have a printer here, and the stuff that comes off of it is fairly rough. given the smooth nature of the print, the size of the peice, and the work involved in trimming and fitting it to the individual wearer, plus everything you mentioned, sometimes its just better to go with a vendor.
