Anyone Know where to get a Holster for  RFT? I know you can modify a blaster to look like a DH 17 but, where do you find a holster?

I don't know of anywhere that you can buy a screen accurate holster.

I made holsters of my own design for our Sunrider Base Fleet Trooper project. I'm working on a more screen accurate version, at the request of a few people. I need to get going on those.

I wanted a  more "practical" version that covers the whole barrel, so I made these:

You do awesome work! I made another blaster for my TK and it won't fit in the holster that comes with the costume so I gotta attempt to make another holster. I enjoy working with leather but mine don't turn out as good as yours. Guess i'll get ready to stab myself in the fingers again using that poking thing to make the holes. Ouchies!!!

Holster:

  • Also see bottom of this thread: RFT Belt source

    • There was mention of using a drill holster, if your not making a custom holster.

Blaster:

Sounds like you're using an awl, Sheri.

I use a punch and mallet. Of course I usually end up hitting the knuckle on my left index finger a few times when I grab the punch too high.   I had a perpetual bruise there for months, during this project!

Which is why she's glad the Endor rifle for our current project doesn't require a holster. LOL.

Hehe. Is a punch and mallet easier to use? Every time I use my awl, like I said I always poke myself and every time I pull the awl out the needle thing always pulls out of its handle. Like I can't tighten it enough.

I have one of those type of punches, too, but it's too hard for me to punch through 2 pieces of leather that are already glued together at a seam.

Drill bits work for some people, but they sort of chew and tear the hole through the leather, not cut a nice neat hole with smooth edges.

Real leather workers don't use drills.

Might I make a suggestion? When I drilled  the holes in my Jedi belt for the rivets, I clamped the leather between two 1/2-inch thick scraps of wood. The drill did its chewing on the wood and made a clean hole right through the leather.

That's essentially what I do, but I used scrap leather to bracket the intended holster.

Great suggestion.

Punching though a lot of thick leather with a punch = great stress releiver.

I can see the drill idea though. Probably not bad if done right so the bit dosn't jack up the leather.

I got my leather today. Only took 24 hrs to get here! But of course Tandy leather is only 60 miles away from me. Just a question. Before you cut the leather to size(for my stormtrooper blaster) is there any way or tricks to make sure you are going to cut the leather the right size? I would hate to cut it too small and waste the piece. I bought enough leather to make another one just in case I do mess up.  Oh and by the way, I think i'll go with the drill method. that poking thing kills my fingers.
