I have searched all over the forum but couldn't find any subject about Qui-Gon Jinn's half pony tail holder.
Does anyone know how it is done or where I can find more info of how to do it to look good?
Here is a screen capture from the Phantom Menace movie where you can almost see how it looks like. Would have been nice if there were a closer picture of it. This is as best I have found it from the movie...

Just from looking at the picture you have posted, to me it looks like a couple of brown elastic hair bands. I have occasionally worn my hair like that with my Jedi costume, and while I don't have any pictures of it to show you, my hairband looks a lot like that, though not as long as I only use one. _________________

Would be cool to make a an easy put-on-take-off pony tail holder instead of using elastic hairbands. Cause it's a pain to take it off.
But you are probably right. Looks like elastic hairbands.
In Sweden, where I come from, we have a lot of medieval festivities and people dress accordingly at these events. At the markets people also make and sell a lot of different types of clothes, belts, swords etc etc.
I think I have seen something for pony tail that looks like what Qui-Gon Jinn uses at these markets. I must check it out next time I go. |

It looks to me like it's just some leather lace. You can pick that up at most craft stores. And as a bonus, leather tends to stay tied and doesn't hurt your hair too much. |

I'm going to second the leather lace idea. Some of the screenshots I've seen from later in the film look like a slightly lighter color, but the best shots I've found look like a dark leather.

I'd say leather or suede cord, too. _________________

if you want to make it as a holder, I think it's possible...
Let me see if I can explain this...
perhaps if you make a holder like this in the appropriate size and then glue and wrap leather cord around it, and cutting it so that it can still open and close?
I hope this makes sense _________________

I just use 2 brown elastic pony tail holders. Looks good enough I think. |
