|

It seems like the shape of Leia's belt for both her senatorial and ceremonial gowns is one of the more confusing points of the dresses, and our written descriptions on the standards do not help much there. Belts are often tough to make and tough to modify, but they are one of the most common things we ask people to fix when they come through for approval. So, based common issues, I put together a little guide of what we will accept and what we won't.
While, as judges, we can't advocate for one seller over another, should you choose to buy one instead of make it yourself, we can answer your questions about approvability if you send us links to a particular vendor. We can also get in touch with vendors about changing their belts to meet standards, if we know who people are buying from. Granted, vendors are not always willing to change, but we can try. _________________

I've been looking for those photos all morning. Couldn't remember where I had seen them other than the original site which is no longer functioning.
In my notes I had that the belt is 2.5" wide on the sides and 3" in the center. |

I adjusted mine based on my body type, I'm 5'8 and have a longer torso, so a smaller belt looked odd on me. I used 1 inch buttons and proportionally sized my plates to work with my belt. The guide is a great reference point for the shape and overall size measurements but everyone should make sure it looks right on them as well. |

I was playing with the templates to make a printable pattern, and I got a little carried away. Hopefully, someone can benefit from my excess enthusiasm. _________________ They said to dress for the job I want, so I'm dressing like a badass space princess. |

Woah, yes! I gladly volunteer to be that someone Thank you so much for sharing this. The patterns are perfect. Now I don't need to draft them myself. |

It's very, very useful! I just went this afternoon to my local leather workshop to get the belt done and these patters have helped a lot. If I'm lucky, next week it will be finish and I will upload some photos! |

I've updated the belt pattern to be slightly more accurate (now traced directly from my actual belt) and added some notes on construction and materials. Thanks to Pandorachaan and rusope for being guinea pigs!
Judges, if there's anything in the notes to be added or tweaked, please let me know. _________________ They said to dress for the job I want, so I'm dressing like a badass space princess. |

Does this mean that the second shape that appears in the guide is no longer approvable?? I personally like it more, but as the new pattern has the shape of the first belt I'm a bit confuse xDD _________________

There is a bit of difference in how they look depending on what you look at, but the senatorial and ceremonial belt isn't quite as similar as most people think.
For one thing the belt plates do go to the edge on the senatorial, but not on the ceremonial.
Secondly the ceremonial as two more plates than the senatorial. The plates are much closer together.
And, of course, the original ceremonial belt had an elastic in the back rather than having the two sides touch.
I do think we are in need of updating this guide so it accurately reflects these differences and updates in the standards. _________________
