OK so I just got my Darthhair Helmet & its primed & ready to go. But what type of paint is generally used? I bought some acrylic cans today but just want to make sure they are what I need before I get started help is acrylic paint the stuff to use or should I have gone for something like car spray paint?

Acrylic is good. However, it is generally a bad idea to apply solvent based paints (Lacquer, enamel, etc.) over acrylic. The stronger chemicals in the enamels can dissolve less "active" paints under it.

Primer < lacquer < enamels < acrylic < water based <chalk/pastels (weathering).

Test all your paints on some scrap plastic first. I've seen some really strong automotive type paints melt styrene plastic!

Darker colors over lighter if you can't mask it off. Red over white generally comes out red, but white over red ends up pink.

Thanks for the advice, very helpful. I went with the acrylics & found an Acrylic based varnish/lacquer. Pleased with the results thus far. Very Happy
