I am getting ready to build my X-wing pilot and I wanted to get some opinions before I started my ejection harness.
What should I be concerned about when building it?
If you had to do it over again, how would you change your harness?
What tips do or concerns have you had while trooping in your harness?
What did you attach your harness to (the vest, the flight suit)?
What you do know now that you wished you knew then?
Thanks for the help everyone. _________________ Do or do not. There is no try. |

It's really easy.
I would have used velcro to the back of my flak vest first.
I did safety pins at first, but velcro is SOOOOOO much easier.
The velcro thing.
One more thing to note, if you're not sure if they're right, try to walk up a set of stairs normally. If you almost die, you've got them right. _________________

Hey Chris, let me know what day you can swing by and I can show you mine. We can even measure, cut, hot-fix the ends and pin them together for you. _________________ -David

Lol
Well, other than getting to ejection straps positioned so they don't trip you it's a great costume. _________________

I've got a strip of velcro running from the top to bottom of both sides of my flak vest. So it allows me to adjust the "OH I'M GOING TO DIE" aspect on the fly. _________________

When you do the velcro, make sure you give yourself a big long strip on both the straps and on the suit. Doing it that way, you'll have plenty of wiggle room to attach it higher or lower, giving you a good range of adjustment.
I went ahead and put the velcro on the suit rather than the flak vest. If you catch the straps on something or try to sit and pull on it, I'd rather it pull on the suit that yank on my nice vest.
Another advantage I've found is by putting the velcro on the suit, you can pretty much just leave the straps attached. When I unzip the suit and step out of it, the straps can stay there, with the legs going through them. With all the pieces still attached, I don't have to worry as much about the "hard" side of the velcro picking into the nylon webbing.

death by flying I could handle. Death by tripping over my ejection harness while exiting the toilet is a little too much for me.
Thanks for all of the help everyone. Once Celebration is over I will be focusing on getting this completed. _________________ Do or do not. There is no try. |

Because it's one of the most awesome costumes you'll ever own.
I sometimes pull my straps above my knees and hold them while walking on stairs. You will trip once or twice and rip them apart. It's a trial and error thing to get them set right.
I am still amazed when I see Luke run up the ladder and jump into the X-Wing in ANH! _________________ There is NO Orange Mafia |

My flak vest has slide buckles sewn in behind the front and the back panel. Works like the velcro but you don't have to worry about stuff getting fuzzy or caught on other parts of your costume. |
