While waiting for my Clone Trooper belt, decided to start work on a new project, a Iktotchi Jedi Master.

Starting with the Rubies Saesee Tiin mask...my postman smashed it into my mailbox, so some heat gun and shaping is in order. Got some Velcro to seal the back and some padding to help shape the head better. The face still has a bit of a sneer to it...perhaps that is intentional?

Also, the masks come with a sort of raised rectangular "tag" on the back, which I managed to sand off with my Dremel, although because it is raised, I was not able to completely eliminate the lines, but should be a lot less noticeable. Currently having my artist mother in law paint over the area...next, I need to get some foam up at the top to bolster it...the mask does not really rise up enough where the horns are attached to the head....

I am tempted to have the mother in law paint it up a bit, as I think the mask is lighter than the actual Saesee, and she is a pretty accomplished painter, and I suck at color differentiation...

Also wondering about the eyes...thinking of trying to find some yellow transparent plastic to make fake irises for a more realistic look...

Never really worked with latex masks before, so any advice/tips would be more than appreciated. Thanks already to a number of you who have already provided support and helpful tips!

Well, it really comes down to which organization, RL or 501st, has the better 501K plan...;-P

On a more serious tone, if I can get the mask into a state where I feel it meets RL standards, then I will have no issue and will certainly wear it to Joliet and other event. I just want it to look good and reasonably realistic.

Painting...as I suck at painting, my mother in law is working on this...so far so good I think, but its only really the shading, the start of it...the original mask is far too light and not enough details, particularly around the face and horns...

Hope so. I think the face still needs to be darker...as well as the horns (which were too dark before and now too light).

Worried it will look too much like a painting and not the real thing.

i think it will look more real when it is on and the shape of a head not flat, also if you cut out the whites of the eyes so you can see your eyes so he doesnt look like hes staring

Will cut out the eyes, then...

I do need to try it on and make adjustments. I have been tinkering with foam to bolster the forehead and where the "horns" attach...

i used spray expandable foam for plo. id never used it before, i made a right mess. the foam also irritates my skin so i wear a head band to stop it rubbing in my forehead

i also used too much foam at first and it started to stretch the rubber on the ears

i think the paint job looks great though

Thanks for the tip. I using a soft foam "helmet" with a block or two of foam on top of it to start with...

Latest...

I may need to open up the left eye (my left...right eye facing the mask) a bit more...its irritating my eye.

I think its harder with the more human looking aliens to convey realism. That being said, perhaps with the Jedi hood on and such it may appear better. I am also fiddling around with padding more.

I am trying to find the right places to put the padding. Right now, its not attached to the mask, as I am trying to find the right places to put it. Wondering if a better strategy may be to attach padding to the mask and then trim it down as needed.

This is the first mask I have worked with, so if any tips/suggestions, please please please, send along.

looking good so far, it would be a shame to cover those horns with a hood

Tiin's horns face down, though...I would think they should be visible...will have to see. If I get some time, will put the mask and Jedi costume together and see how things look...
