For those of you who do Ceremonial Leia, how do you do her hair? I've got the rest of the costume figured out but I'm really struggling on that hairdo. Any help is appreciated! _________________

Hiya.
Here's how I do mine:
I've got really long hair myself, which I first put in a high ponytail. As high as I can get. Then I braid it and wrap it around its own base. This then forms the base of the braided bun.
On top of that I use two Kanekalon packs braided together to form one braid. This goes round the bun once, is pinned in place (with the end tucked under) and hangs down the back to my bum.
On top of that goes another pack of braided Kanekalon extensions (one pack), which I start under the other braid to hide the end, and then I just wrap around adding height along the way and pinning in place. I hide the other end inside the bun.
In case you are wondering, then yes, this is a bit heavy, so it's very important that your own hair have equal distribution of the weight. Otherwise you'll end up with a headache. (Been there, done that). If you get good distribution then the weight shouldn't be a problem. _________________

That's a great link! The pictures really helped. I'll have to get some better extensions (the ones I have don't match my hair) and give it a try. _________________

I made a base for the bun out of wire mesh. Covered that with felt and have sewn the braids to it with a comb on the inside.
I put my hair in a high pony tail. Attach the separate braid extension. I wind my own hair in a bun and can fit it all inside the hairpiece. Use hairpins to secure the top hairpiece to my head. Takes me under 5 minutes to have the hair ready to go.

Bumping an old thread with a question -- the link above is my tutorial and it's the way I did the Ceremonial hair way back in 2007 when RL standards were different. I was asked if it would be approvable now -- could a Royalty judge weigh in?
(One thing I do know is my braid was too long and I need to have some more length left loose at the end -- always meant to do that but never did ) _________________

Your tutorial is great but the hair should appear to be braided and circle the top, the exposed bun on top would not be approvable. The braid should end just past the bum _________________

Yep, aside from the visible bun it works great. And the long braid is just a matter of using long enough extensions and leaving the right amount unbraided. _________________
