A long time ago, at a computer terminal not so far away, I began my quest for a Rebel Fleet Trooper. There were others in the Base, and three of the four matched, the other was Costumebase. Of the three, I was never able to find the brand shirt that they used, as the CO at that time felt that color consistency was important. And he was right. I also struggled with--and still do--the pants.
Taking one step at at time I stumbled across a Carhartt blue chambray work shirt. It tends to the grey side of blue, and matches my Base-mate Landeaux 's RAID approved shirt color. I wish a had a coupon....but I was in the store, and they had my size on hand and most importantly I could SEE the color for myself, and not rely on web photos which are usually over exposed.

Even here the color is brighter blue than the shirt I bought tonight.
I will be using my TIE boots, and I have material to make a holster for my DH17 (Hasbro) . Im leaning towards the soft cap version of the RFT just to be different. _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

Sounds like you have a plan! I know the Carhartt shirt you are talking about and it should work fine. I used old Navy issue shirts and that is what many other's use. I'm sure Schph will chime in about the Ceremony cap idea, I love that hat, and want to eventually have one, but it is probably above my sewing capabilities as of right now.

thanks Todd , ill be farming the hat out to Madsteamstress in Kessel base but I know the wait WILL be extensive, but totally worth it. so Ill send her the info and material soon. I might get it by mid year next year, but thats a known thing because she is THAT busy.
I took pics of the shirt just now. Interesting how this shade reacts to lighting conditions. No flash used.
In the first photo it looks grey, in the second photo it looks blue. The difference is likely the background telling the auto white balancer in my camera what to do. total time elapsed between photos was about 1 minute. _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

Just to put in my two cents, the RFT helmet is awesomely iconic and always gets recognized at events. Since TK-560 is offerning his kits again I'd highly recommend getting one.

Hi Sam, yep,its a great helmet. Hes also offering group discounts. I love to be 'that guy', and have several one off costumes so im a bit different. Plus the long bill hat will shade me more than the helmet and i need as much shade as i can get.
My Base will likely be ordering from him in the next few weeks after the holidays, and its an easily assembled helmet. Ive even got an interest topic up in my Garrison forums to stimulate interest. _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

Have two myself. A great "starter" kit if you have not worked with vac formed plastic before.
Glad to see he's back. _________________

Mac my seamstress sent back patterns for the hat, and based it upon the screngrabs she got from the bluerays.
the bluerays do not show any bias tape, however the hat kathy made does.
do you have a preference on what you would prefer? _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

With the release of the Blu-Ray versions, we finally get some detail that wasn't available the first time around
Cropped and zoomed:
This guy really needs a bigger hat!
So, a six-panel "pie" style cap or a WW2 "USAAF B-1" should be correct.
They were part of the rush job to get bodies in costume for the medal scene. The fastest and cheapest way would be to sew the flap pieces right-side together, turn and press, then run a top-stitch for your edge detail. _________________

I need some Judge input on this, as far as color. This is for the Rebel Fleet Trooper long-billed ball cap. I have a friend, Madsteamstress that has this on hand. To me it looks close to what was used on the original hats, but other monitors see things differently.
Same fabric, with photos taken inside and outside
this was supposed to be marked fabric sample 3

Im going to be going with the top style, the 6 pie cut fabric wedges.
Does the color samples look within reason ? We have it on hand and can proceed if so. _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

Going off the screen caps, and Kathy's hat, and my head measurements my friend drafted a pattern and made a canvas mockup. _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

I'm for tan. Much like the Yavin Tech and Endor shirts, I feel the Rebels should be "earth tones" while the Empire is black, white and grey. _________________ -David
