My new sewing machine is a Brother (but a fancier model with a lot of built in stitches), and I really like it so far.

Meg
I could not remember what size boot you said you wore...
take a look at these..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jessica-Simpson-Genuine-Leather-Saddle-Brown-riding-Boots-size-11-wide-calf-/261654310266?ssPageName=ADME:SS:SS:US:1120

they do have a wide calf...
and when you get to working on a Jedi belt...if you cut and dye the pieces...I can help you assemble the belt...we can use my leatherworking tools and give you a chance to try them out...

And...
thanks to all who came by today..
...I can't believe I forgot to take pictures...

If you need help with something...we can try to set up a one on one...
I did share with you my most prized Jedi possession...my patterns..lol...

Laughing

and..
in case you were wondering why that holster and belt has a funny red cast to it...
that is because it is dyed with Canyon Tan...
one of the two approved holster colors for RFT's

the other approvable color is Range Tan...which looks like baby poo...
mine is also done in Canyon tan...it is a little darker because I was trying to match my old belt...which does have a red cast to it as well..

Anyway..
our upcoming Sunday..
so far it is Tim and Kathy...

Kathy does not need my help with anything...lol...as far as I am concerned...I need to learn from her...

Tim is interested in working on his Jedi General forearm pieces...
where I have worked with Bondo...it was mainly on cars many, many years ago...I am sure it is the same process...but I have no supplies (other than sandpaper) or "special tools for working with Bondo...

The day is open to any "repeat" customers...lol...

Also...I referenced The Jedi Assembly a couple times...

here is a link to their tutorial page...you should find some great information here:

Not a problem....
will do

I will make sure all of that stuff is out...

I have a little molding material left and sufficient casting material to see that....

which is fascinating...

I looked at JoAnne for fabric & saw some that would work, but it was $9.99 per yard (for a tan/khaki bottom weight) and it was 30% off, so I couldn't use my 60% off coupons. I figured that I would wait & check at Vogue before I bought that, in case I could find something similar at a better price.

We got done working early today, so while I was dressed for outside, I decided to head up to Evanston & see what I might find.

4 yards of this @ $1.49 per yard (60 width) + one $1.00 7" invisible zipper + one spool of thread. That will make me another (heavier weight) pair of Hoth Rebel Trooper pants. I still have batting & interfacing.

New fabric on the left, my existing Hoth Rebel Trooper pants on the right.
These fabrics are a LOT closer in color in natural light.

....and now the fabric is in the washer, then into the dryer. If it's gonna shrink, it can do it now before I cut anything out.

FYI: Vogue has a LOT of nice neutrals & off whites right now in various weights at $1.49 & $1.99 per yard.

I really do need to replace my RFT pants....they are men's pants and are a wee bit too tight in some places....lol...

I have one like this..

I bought it to get into tight places while pressing stuff..
in retrospect...I should have gotten something larger..

I'm on the fence about coming down tomorrow. I've been sick for the past few days, recovering fairly quickly, but I wouldn't want to pass it on to anyone. However, I would love to take part and learn some new prop making techniques. I guess I will see how I'm feeling in the morning and make a determination at that time.

my sincere thanks to all who came out to these two costume gatherings..
I hope you went away with some new found knowledge or confidence...

Sharing what we all know is key...thanks to those who also enlightened me with some great ideas and knowledge..

The sculpt I made for the Hoth Trench Trooper buckle greeblie was un-molded this morning...happy to report there were no runs, drips, or errors...it looks pretty good..
The purpose of making this was to show Kathy the mold process...

the mold...

We cast a few other things as this mold was not ready to cast....we watched the chemical process of the casting resin turn from liquid to solid...

Tim got his Jedi General forearm armor cut...a short lesson on bondo...
and he is off and running..

And Kathy showed us some pattern altering and began a new pair of pants for her Hoth Trench Trooper...

Jason also stopped by with his Jedi belt and showed us some really cool features and some alterations he made...
gave me some GREAT ideas..

We can do this again maybe in the spring if anyone is interested...

and..
remember if I can help you with something..we can always arrange a one on one...

and...
why are my photos sideways?

sigh...
