First build was suuuper rushed for Wondercon.

10325581_302321643263786_8039647346525926455_n by roguerebels, on Flickr

Grabbed thrift store pants.

Painted some boots that came out pretty good. It's nearly impossible to find boots with the grey/brown mix that Kanan's boots have. I bought grey boots and lightly used brown shoe polish to get the mix. The tan panels are painted on with fabric paint and outlined with black. weathered them a bit but didn't seal the paint job so that the boots would continue to weather every time I wore them!

The Holster I made from 3 or 4 belts I bought at the thrift store. The holster has a slimmer strap (1 inch or so) and the belt I used 1 1/2 I think. The buckles I made from plastic cut from a cheap Wal-Mart trash can. Painted silver and weathered a bit. I Glued pleather panels around a cardboard box for the actual holster. Still haven't found a DL-18 so I'm still "borrowing" Vos' Westar.

The shirt is always the hardest.

IMAG1666 by roguerebels, on Flickr

I hunted MANY thrift stores and finally found 2 ladies sweaters with collars that I though could work. One was green and one was yellow. The yellow one was too bright so we dipped it in green dye to bring it closer to the other shirt. Cut and sewed then together (Not very well). Main issues were the shirt was too shirt it kept becoming untucked and the sleeve kept pulling up.

The armor I made out of foam and patterned out of posterboard. still didn't know how to make curves and the knees and shoulder have horrible seams. Also I think the heatforming shrunk the forearm a bit I think.

Shaved and pulled my dreads back and called it a day!!

The first thing I wanted to improve was the shoulder. It's so prominent and cool looking I needed to fix it and make it cool. I watched a bunch of tutorials from Evil Ted Smith on youtube after seeing soem of his amazing foam work and studied. Ended up with this.

old crappy shoulder and new improved version! by roguerebels, on Flickr

I think it's a great improvement. I also got better at painting and weathering foam. You can't quite sand the foam because it bends too much and then the pattern looks off. I found using steel wool works perfectly.

It's actually patterned from three pieces glued together so that's how I got the curve much better. Liked the paint job so much I repainted the rest of the pieces to match.

The other thing that needed to be fixed was the shirt. Commissioned a shirt and ended up with this.

It's a bit loose but we'll take it in a bit and the next thing I think must be the belt buckles. And the knees.... the knees are bad.

In a hurry for an event I just cut sanded and painted the Knee pads as fast as possible!!

IMAG2472 by roguerebels, on Flickr

IMAG2477 by roguerebels, on Flickr

As for the blurriness of the pics I blame my aforementioned hurrying.

Sal, those look amazing! KW Designs is always impeccable, of course, but you knocked it out of the park on finishing. Smile

Here are the knee pads attached to the elastic straps. The straps velcro to the back of the knee armor.

Started painting the shoulder armor. Just like everything else started with primer...

IMAG2516 by roguerebels, on Flickr

Then the silver coat...

IMAG2520 by roguerebels, on Flickr

Then finally the green which is a new green I found that looks more like the reference color in the show...

IMAG2524 by roguerebels, on Flickr

It's more like an army green than the dark green I was using before. I'm very happy with it and it looks like it's gonna be perfect!

Then for the detail I use a technique I found from the Mandalorian Mercs. I first cut a stencil out of paper and place it on the armor in the correct place...

IMAG2531 by roguerebels, on Flickr

Then I mask onto and OVER the stencil...

IMAG2533 by roguerebels, on Flickr

Then I use an Xacto knife and carefully and LIGHTLY cut the stencil out...

IMAG2535 by roguerebels, on Flickr

and BOOM!! Ready to paint and masked perfectly!

IMAG2536 by roguerebels, on Flickr

Which I did...

I'm using all rustoleum spraypaints.

1. Dark Grey Primer
2. Silver Metallic
3. Spruce Green
4. Dark Hunter Green (Used it for my old armor but now I'm using it for the details toward the bottom of the shoulder piece.)
5. Flat White (bird symbol)

Acrylic Kings Gold for the yellow numbering

After that I'm using Smoke grey to weather the white symbol then I have some small acrylic paints and I mix real red and burnt umber for the rust colored weathering on the green.
