Hello all, this is my first time posting so I hope this is in the right place. Smile I just finished my Sabine costume for ALT*Con last weekend and I'm hoping I can get it approved eventually. It was a four-day rush build from scratch so some things aren't quite where I want them to be. I thought I would post and get some advice on what needs improving.

Hey, looking great!

As I am right now also building a Sabine, I would really be interesting in some detail-shots or WIP-pictures! As I have most of the parts in a "raw state", I am right now a bit horrified to start the paint-job...

Did you use styrene for the armour parts?

I didn't take many progress pics (I always forget,) but here's one of all the raw pieces and my helmet with it's last coat of filler.

Armor pieces and helmet were made from 1/8" expanded PVC (Sintra.) It's my go-to material for armor, though this is certainly the most I've ever done with it.

Here are a few pics of the pieces as they are now:

The paint job wasn't bad at all (then again I love to paint. All of my stuff is covered in paint splatters, which is why I fell in love with Sabine's character design in the first place.) It probably would have turned out better if my airbrush hadn't blown a hose first thing. The base coat was done with spray paint, the rest was hand painted and dry-brushed for the weathering.
Still finishing the back of the helmet and I need to re-make the range finder.

I know the guns aren't accurate, but they did okay in a pinch. Modded Nerf Stryfes. I'll re-do the holsters once I get the right guns.

Very, very nice.

What fabric did you use for the bodysuit?
Is it short sleeved?

You made the helmet from sintra too? That's good work.

Thanks! Very Happy

The shirt is partially a snug shirt that I already had, I cut it apart and added the gray panels out of interlock. Yes, it is short sleeved. Pants were a pair of leggings that I found and added the darker brown panels to. They feel like ponte fabric, they're thicker than normal leggings so I felt a little better about wearing them as pants, lol. Wink

That looks an awful lot like the fabric that we are using. Looking good!

Kinda discourage with my progress lately, but I do believe my wig is finished. Smile

A Magnum wig from Arda in dark blue, with fire orange wefts added.

More progress:

Guns and paint sprayer were made from pink insulation foam board. (black panels on the guns are sintra for a little extra stability.) Buttons and nozzle are Sculpey.

Comlink made from various pvc plumbing connections, o-rings, and a bit of screen mesh. The notes on Sabine's costume say that her comlink is the same as the one Luke uses in Episode IV, I went with a combination of that and the one seen on the Disney face character at SWW.

Repainted the armor since the costume notes specified "maroon or burgundy." Much happier with this paint job anyway. Pinstriping and distressing was done with a silver paint pen.

All together!

Does anyone have any idea where to put the paint gun? I'm assuming it would go on the belt somewhere but I don't see it in any of the shots.

I think it would pull the plastidip right off the current one, but I'll keep that in mind. I'd like to cast it in resin at some point.

This is a very nice build!

Umm...we might want to use your efforts with a costume standard for Sabine. I've seen a couple of other builds, but...I'm thinking yours is the best so far. Exceptional work Wink

So, stay tuned as the series airs and we are able to finalize some standards for this new series Very Happy
