|
|
|
Here are some pictures of the progress on my Slave Leia costume before submitting to RL for approval. I know there are some things that I still have to work on before taking the official pictures, but feedback is highly welcome.
Here are some things:
-The skirt fabric has an extra foot of fabric until I figure out the actual length and cut it. I'm paranoid about it being too short. Also, I attached the fabric with snap tape to the curved part of the plate and that's why it drapes so weird. I have to add more snap tape at the top of the plate.
-I have tattoos, and I will be covering those with makeup for my official pictures.
-My earrings are unfinished. I have to sand the claws some more and paint them with matching gold paint.
-My chain was the original I made two years ago with shower curtain rings. I am working on making a new one out of polymer clay and copper craft wire.
I apologize for the mess in the background... And here they are!!

I personally think you have done a fantastic job Angie ! The only thing I notice (and this is such an easy fix) Is just to reattach the shoes little buckle in this photo
Otherwise I 100% agree with you, just cover the tattoos, make those other tweaks you mentioned and I think you are good to go! _________________

Dawn, thanks :-) I fixed the boots after I noticed that. Maybe I'll reheat the boot and push the curve inward.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!! The new chain is smaller and darker and the earrings are finished. I'll submit my application very soon, as soon as I secure an extra hand for the photos. |

Here is the new chain (12 links thanks to Liz's observations) and the finished earrings. Polymer clay is very fragile and I cracked a link while I was putting the wire around it. I had to crack another extra link and glue it.

Looks good and I know what you mean about the clay. It's pretty fragile. _________________ Stay on Target |

You can actually strengthen the polymer clay - by putting wire *into* it.
Like this...
- create a ring from strong wire. That could be thinner wires, twisted together, then shaped into a ring; or thicker wire shaped into a ring.
- Then create two rolls of polymer clay; each a bit less than half as thick as you would use if you would create the rings from one roll of polymer clay.
- Cover the wire ring on one side with one of the polymer clay rolls;
- turn over, cover the other side of the wire ring with the other roll of polymer clay.
- smooth the polymer clay that's covering both sides until it completely encases the wire with a rounded layer of polymer clay. Nothing of the wire should be visible at that point any more.
- bake the clay with the wire still inside.
That will give you (much!) strengthened polymer clay rings. Don't underestimate the possibility of someone yanking the chain during an event. If the polymer clay rings then break, it's a mess all over; plus you would have to do them again. _________________ ~*~ Love of my life: Creating costumes! ~*~

Thanks Naergi!! I have a huge roll of a thick wire and thought about using it... I'll definitely make another chain for sure. |
