Due to my never-ending quest to get this one (almost?) perfect, I'm rebuilding, again.

I'm mainly focusing on the tabbard-outer-hood piece, and as I've finally discovered patterning in the last couple years, trying to go that route.

I think I got a decent mock-up, but as I'm cutting along where the visible seams are, I'm finding it impossible to get both the back of the hood AND the front over-the-should part to all be one piece with the back tabbard.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

I am psyched to see this in progress again. When you get patterns figured out, could you take a photo with them all laid out for shape? When I'm back in the US, I am totally thinking about trying to get a base-wide build of this going, or something like that (whatever base I wind up back in...).

Sure! I've completely butchered several pieces of fabric and some old newspapers, not to mention pricked my fingers, neck, shoulder, pulled hair, you name it...but I just might get a pattern out of this yet. Maybe.

Smile

I've also got to put all those RP pics up sometime!

Glad to be of help. Of course, knowing what to do and being able to do it are two very different things, at least for me. Smile

Progress - please excuse the pins and the sagging happening from the angle. It will (hopefully) be much less droopy on the bottom opening of the front of the hood.

Dye progress!

I'm very happy, for the most part, with the coloring. (It now makes me also want to redo the whole underdress for it, as well....)

Now to line it and tackle the obi again.

Wow it's beautiful! Did you use the spray dye for that?

Thanks!

No, I took a chance and tried the Jacquard Acid Dyes in a bowl on my kitchen floor. I think it turned out well. Smile

A pic from this weekend's troop (accompanying our queen!) I'm the handmaiden on the left as you look at the pic.

I'll post some patterning pics soon.

The lining bunched, and I want to redo the underdress now due to some other issues, but I'm fairly pleased with the outer hood.

This is still a WIP rebuild. Smile

I was wondering if that was the new dress. Mr. Green Thanks for sharing the hood/top pattern too. That isn't what I would have envisioned myself.

Are you going to try to bleach the bottom for the yellow gradient or just leave it at orange?

The base color of the velvet is actually a golden yellow, but it might not look like it in the pictures. Smile The bottom of the skirt is not dyed at all.

However, I'm planning on remaking the whole underdress, so we'll see on the color.

The way I came up with the shape for the outer hood is by sewing together how I wanted it to look, then cutting along where I knew there were seams to make the shape.

I know there are no seams on the entire back of the hood, so I sort of went from there.

Thanks for posting the pattern pictures!

I'm having trouble imagining how the shape of the outer hood turns into the complete piece. Does the bottom trailing part only drape down the back? I thought it would have draped down the front too, but I can't see that in the pattern. Do you cut out two of that piece and attach one in the front? Sorry if that doesn't make sense...
