Hello Clones of the Republic!

I just finished a Jedi General costume. While 99% of the time I plan on running around without a bucket, for a blast a jedi/trooper (nerf) event and I wanted to have a bucket so I didn't get hit in the eye or anything.

My armor is ACA from terrell78 on ct.net

So... since I am not doing a full on clone costume, I don't feel compelled for the kwdesigns, I was thinking of

either:
a rubies deluxe one piece helm

I'm not sure it looks a bit ill proportioned.

or modifying the hasbro voice changing helmet as it's proportions look a bit better.

I'd love some input on the matter. I'm kind of stuck on which to do, but trying to get it done a con at the end of the month. Any help or suggestions would be very welcome. I'm aiming for this at least for the con so it looks kind of accurate for the time I am working on it.

Thanks for any given input.

Get a WCA one, one of their earlier revisions.

yes...buy a good lid. Nothing shows up more on your suit than the helmet!

I'm happy to mod either one too. Modding in fact is fun.

If you're planning on a resculpt resulting in a new casting mold, I'd say go for it. Kev is getting $200 for his at the moment, so a quality alternative for something less might be good for everyone!

Hmm resculpting based on what I do. There is a thought. That might push my skills. I'll just need to get a base one to tinker with. I just wish I had my hand on one of the rubies as I have a hasbro one, but tried using Evercaot poly-flex and something went wrong with the hardener and as it was my first time trying that over bondo, I didn't realize it and it gummed it up.

I would advise getting a WCA helmet, or a KWD helmet. Both are top notch sculpts, and would save you time and money in the long run.

If you want it done at the end of the month, get a quality bucket. It takes a long time to mod a helmet.

If you dig around here, or at CTN, you'll find the thread where Brian (Stormtrooperguy) modified the Hasbro lid into a TCW bucket.

When he first posted the thread (way back when), I thought he was crazy. There was so much work to be done. IIRC, it took him months, and far more than $200 in materials, test pulls and trials, just to get to Rev 1. IIIRC, they have something like 4 revisions of the helmet now.

Now, if you like modding and have a shop, and the skills, and a good Reynolds rep, then go for it. But to get it done in under 30 days? Sorry, but I doubt you, or Kevin Weir, or Brian, EV03 or anyone could get a helmet modded into a quality state in a month.

Now, you could prove me wrong, and knock it out of the park. But for the TCW look, like the figure you posted, the WCA rev 1 really matches that look. Why duplicate the wheel?

I agree with Gordon. Taking the time to invest in a good helmet now will save you a lot of time down the road. Also, if you have a good helmet, you might just decide to go for the full clone (not just the Jedi armour). Wink

True statements. Some things to consider. Thanks for the suggestions all. Now to see what I can get shaking inside of the time frame. In general I have gone away from the rubies, it looks... wrong somehow. Like the lower section is ill proportioned.

When it comes to armour, whether Rebel Legion or 501st, typically Rubies is the last one you want to consider (without modifying it unrecognisable).

Well played sir. Well played. If more jedi wore battle armor your collection would be less extensive...

Tint %?

Does anyone happen to know what the standard tint % is on the visor?
