Hello! I have finally collected most of the materials needed for my newest costume

Purple Travel Gown

I have collected a series of images for this costume and researched the dress as much as I can. (Of course more research is always good)

I am going to post relevant information here with photos and begin this costume in the next few weeks.

I'm sure you are going to do a great job with this one.

What are you going to do with the navy skirt? I could never figure out what kind of fabric that was, so I settled for a shallow jersey brocade to just get that structured surface, now I'm more and more sure that it's a very thin fabric that has been unevenly smocked to create the texture of it.

One thing to be weary of is that the gown in the exhibits isn't displayed with the proper underwear. The skirt looks a lot bigger in screen captures and promos, which makes me believe that it had some kind of hoop skirt there, and then of course the mannequin is also lacking the hair buns on top of the head.

Would this puckered crape be even remotely close?

What I had planned/plan on doing was using a fabric is found with a slight krinkle texture. But now that stuff that Joslynn just found is soooo tempting to buy... my gosh its so close/same thing

In those photos I posted the headpiece is totally wrong. Yes she got the two Mickey Mouse Ears on her head in the gown and that appears to be missing!

One note of caution: On a lot of their fabrics, there is a minimum order of something like 15 yards. You may need a partner to work with. (Of course, on a lot of Padme costumes, 15 yards of something is just about enough...)

Question for you ladies (or guys)
Does anyone happen to know how (or what the process is called) to create the designs of the Naboo Symbol in the material?

Its not burnout I dont think? It appears to almost be crushed with the design.
I know a number of others have made this dress I hope its a process I can just google. But I dont even have a name for it
Thanks!

Wonder if this could be the solution?
The stamp would only run me around 26.00 But id like to know if a better option exists!

Have any thoughts?

It almost looks Bleached into the material

I think that very well could be the way it was done. At first, I had thought it was a burnout/etched pattern, but the different angles have me leaning toward the method listed in your link.

I embossed my velvet, it's actually quite simple. I didn't even use a proper stamp, but carved out the symbol in a piece of craft foam that I just made a bit more steady by putting some wire on the back.

Colors and materials look gorgeous. Mmmm... all that silk and velvet...

Clever solution for the beaded trim too. I think that's going to look great and really sparkle from a distance.

Will be posting photos of the finished gown and a mini tutorial tomorrow!

I think I need 12ish more hours worth of work and the dress will be good to go!
