I was talking to a friend of mine about machine shops and such in Eastern PA. I should see him tomorrow. I think dowels are a good short-term solution, with aluminum as an eventual upgrade.

I agree, it just adds more realism. I have metal arm tools and my friends were blown away by them.

With minimal shop tools, it's pretty easy to make your own out of aluminum rod. A few weeks ago, I just made my own belt flares as the first step in building my A-Wing outfit, using a table vice, skill saw, small bench wheel grinder, and a file.

Got a length of aluminum rod cheap at the big box hardware store.

Started by bevelling one end of the rod on the grinder. It's a tiny bit easier to bevel the longer rod than the cut pieces.

Then measured the length of the flare, wrap the rod in some paper towels to keep the vice from nicking it, clamp the rod in the vice, and cut with the skill saw.

Bevel the end of the cut flare and the new end of the rod.

Repeat until you don't have an aluminum rod left! I find it better to measure off only 1 flare at a time. That way they are all measured from the same starting point of the actual end of the rod and consequently less variable of lost material from the cutting and grinding.

When done, take the file to smooth off all the bevels. Sort into piles of flares that are the same length. Just working by hand, there will be slight differences, so just make sure that all the ones that go into one belt are the same. It's also easy to trim the length down on pieces that are a smidge long using the grinder and/or file.

That's a good idea for the belt flares.it would work for the leg flares too, provided you could get a nice finish on the bevels and keep the angle consistent.

After much hope and MANY excuses from the vendor, ive decided to source the last pieces I need elsewhere.my belt has been ordered from customprops, may get my harness from darthhair. Now, I'm sure that stitchesloft will deliver my stuff, but six months is a loong time to wait, and I'm tired of waiting.

Before I begin, I retract my previous statement and apologise to stitchesloft.words spoke in anger are usually regretted. Finally got my belt and harness from Ryan.awesome stuff.just too cool, and really worth the money.I have one of Claudio's belts, and this blows it away. Again, apologies to stitchesloft.
