Well here we go again!!!!....Christmas in August....Dont we wish the weather was a little cooler.
Hopefully this will put a spring in your step.
Just like last year, and 29 parades before that, DOMINION is doing it again. This time it is the BIG 30!!
There aren't a lot of details about it yet except that they want us back as I have already talked with the POC for the event and they said "are you kidding, of course we want you all....this is our big 30, why wouldn't we want you all!" They havent announced who the Grand Marshall is but they do have the application up online to be filled out.
The date this year is SATURDAY DECEMBER 7TH, 2013 AT 10:00AM
The Parade will depart from the Science Museum on West Broad Street at 10am and continues East until ending on Seventh Street around noon. Last year's holiday event attracted more than 250,000 spectators from all over Virginia, with thousands more watching a live television broadcast. It is the largest single day event of the year in Virginia. This year's Parade will have huge high-flying balloons, elaborate floats, star spangled marching bands and as always, SANTA CLAUS!
The route is about 2 miles in length down the main thoroughfare in Richmond
This past year, both the Rebel Legion and the 501st marched in the parade.
We are considering this a Medium profile event, meaning, this is an official Rebel Legion event that does not involve Lucasfilm Ltd. and is for RL promotion or charity. A formal costume is the requirement unless otherwise requested/permitted.
All decisions regarding costume types for events are up to the Base Commander, Event Coordinator, the Rebel Legion Event Officer, and Legion Council.
Just like last year we will try to have an RL Dinner the night before and a lunch after the march. And just like last year, we will need to be there around 8 AM in order to be counted for the event.
Last year's weather was absolutely BEAUTIFUL
The cost of marching is $150 for a non profit organization just like last year. We had an incredible turnout with about 30-32 showing up and outnumbering the 501st.
We are going to do it the same as last year with regards to the money involved. I am going to take donations until right before the deadline for the application to go in so that we have a FIRM COMMITMENT from attending persons. I know that the base will have to cover some of the cost up front to put the application in, but I am hoping that we as members of the base will be able to cover the cost without relying on any one individual.
Just to give a little background:
This parade is sort of like Richmond's version of the Rose Bowl Parade in California. The Parade is broadcast LIVE on the local PBS network of Richmond, and will be rebroadcast on Christmas Day and will be ON DEMAND from COMCAST.
TV: The Parade is broadcast LIVE on WTVR-CBS 6 the day of the parade from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
A few years ago a small group of RL and 501st did an interview with CBS 6 and it went over great and we had a fabulous time doing it.
I am hoping we can get everyone from last year as well as more from neighboring bases. As always the more the merrier.
I will be extending this invite to Terrapin Base and anyone in Freedom Base can invite others to join in as long as it is anApproved Rebel Legion Costume
If you are interested in joining in the Reindeer Games just like last year, post your interest and we will go from there.
It would be great to see some of the folks that werent able to attend last year, be able to come this year.
I would love to see a good sized group this year, especially with the addition of some of our newest and returning members.
Please lets please try to keep this to one Face Character per movie/costume
you can have multiple Leias as long as they are in different costumes and such...no 2 EP 4 Leias in the White Gown, but we can have
ANH Leia in Death Star white gown
ANH Leia in Ceremonial outfit
ROTJ Leia Bousch
ROTJ Endor Leia
ROTJ Ewok Encampment outfit
You get the drift...
same with Anakin, Obi-Wan, Han, Luke, Padme, etc., etc.
Thanks in advance and lets make this one bigger and better than last year.
All I know is that Bill's bet still stands that if we can get 66 members of both groups he will buy drinks for everyone....so LETS HAVE AN ORDER 66 THIS YEAR!!!
The only way we can march is to submit the application with the $150 entry fee.
Please only contribute what you feel comfortable with.
You WILL NOT be penalized, by not being able to march, if you dont contribute.
Let me just make that perfectly clear.
If you want to contribute to the Parade Fund, please either use PAYPAL:
JSWEB3@COMCAST.NET Make sure to send it from the PERSONAL TAB, and then under GIFT or OTHER. That way it wont take out any fees
send a check or money order to:
9616 Southmill Drive
Glen Allen, Virginia 23060
If you are sending funds other that through Paypal, please email me
I will post the amount left to cover and all contributors and amounts will remain anonymous.
Thanks for everyone's effort in advance

Well it is now OCTOBER 7th and we are 2 months out and we have a total of 6 persons marching in the parade.
We currently have 20 people signed up for Air N Scare.
This is a 2 hour pre event with a 2 hour march, compared to a 6 hour mini convention with costume changes and such.
This event is the 2nd LARGEST showing of our base during the year.
I really hope that we can get the numbers up similar to that of Air N Scare.
The deadline for the parade application is NOVEMBER 1st. I could still use some help for the application fee.
I have spoken with 3 of the R2DC Droid builders and I am really hoping to get all 3 of them for the parade this year for the truck.
Lets make this a great event. We have had a great turnout for the past couple of years....let that tradition continue! _________________ "Why, you stuck up,..half-witted,..scruffy-looking,..nerf-herder!"..."Who's scruffy-looking?"
I'll see who I can drum up from my base for you. I know I have at least one interested. However, our parade is the next day. _________________

APPLICATION FOR THE PARADE HAS BEEN SUBMITTED AND THE CHECK WILL GO OUT WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK!
I have emails out to 3 of the R2 builders and Albin from Carolina Garrison to see if we can get R2KT up here.
I would love to get a C3PO down here if possible. We could set him up in the truck to ride with the droids and set up a support mechanism to have him hold onto while riding.
It would be great if we could get the 3PO from Echo to come down.
Right now we only have 7 persons signed up....
COME ON FREEDOM BASE....I KNOW THAT THIS IS A LITTLE WAYS OUT BUT EVEN A TENTATIVE IS BETTER THAN NO ANSWER. _________________ "Why, you stuck up,..half-witted,..scruffy-looking,..nerf-herder!"..."Who's scruffy-looking?"
As usual, because of where this event falls in the calendar this will be a very last minute decision for me. Still awaiting my final work schedule for this particular time block... and it won't be out for a few weeks. _________________
